VSP spokesperson Corinne Geller said forensic evidence links Matthew to Morgan Harrington, who vanished in 2009 after a Metallica concert at the University of Virginia and was found murdered and raped three months later. Harrington was a 20-year-old student at Virginia Tech when she disappeared.

Authorities charged Matthew with abduction with intent to defile Hannah Graham, an 18-year-old sophomore from northern Virginia who has been missing since Sept. 13.

“For the past five years, the Virginia State Police has been aggressively pursuing the investigation into the disappearance and death of 20-year-old Morgan D. Harrington of Roanoke, Va. Last week, the arrest of Jesse L. Matthew Jr., 32, of Charlottesville, Va., provided a significant break in this case with a new forensic link for state police investigators to pursue,” said Geller in a news release.

Matthew was arrested on a beach near Galveston, Texas, on Wednesday. He did not fight extradition to Virginia, where he could make an initial court appearance Thursday.

Graham has not been found. Police say they are searching the area south of Albemarle County. They spent last weekend looking for any sign of the 18-year-old in ditches on the side of the road. Police are asking land owners to search their properties while they focus on the major highways leading to Charlottesville.

Tragedy. Don't think it should be made into a race issue.

It is hopeful that the police are using every forensic tool possible to find the missing and impose justice on the guilty. Does VA have the death penalty.

1.) That guy and the sketch look nothing alike.
2.) If they haven't found the body, how do they know that he killed the girl?

I believe the comment is that most serial killers are white. There have always been exceptions.

There are tons of black and non-white serial killers on the internet.
Guess it's mainly the white ones we hear about.

I've heard that quote or similar things to it. Obviously it's not true and never was, but I think statistically a majority of the well publicized serial killers have been white men. It does seem like that the stats have changed a bit in recent times, but one of the reasons tends to be that the most sensationalized cases involve killings of young white women.

It's possible that the man who killed Arkansas realtor Beverly Carter killed others and he may end up getting more publicity than this guy who was caught in Galveston.

I think the drawing looks a bit like the man - minus the dreadlocks.

I also heard that this guy used to be a cab driver and that's probably how he was able to get to some of his earlier victims.

Arkansas realtor? Haven't seen that one yet. I guess the OP guy gets the play around here because it he is almost local. Apparently, he raped someone at Liberty and came through here at CNU for a few months as well.
