Massey is a composite of over 70 ranking systems. Lots of good data used to rank. I have always found this to be an excellent site for a reasonably objective view of the current college football landscape.

Although it's still early, only 1/3 of the regular season out of the way, these types of ratings do start to level off. Interestingly, and very happily...

The bottom 16 look like this:
SBC - 5 teams
MAC - 4 teams
AAC - 4 teams
MWC - 2 teams
Ind - 1 team
CUSA - 0 teams

That's what I'm glad to see, no bottom teams. If we want to be considered a top G5 conference I think being consistent top to bottom is the way. That builds SOS in conference play.

Does the rating differential correlate to the projected score differential?
If one team is 60 and the other team is 70, does that project a 10 pt win for the team rated 60?

No I think the ratings are the averages of 70 different ranking systems.

For example, if the team A has the rankings 30, 33, and 35 in three different ranking systems, their total rating would be 32.67

My team would be #2 in CUSA per Massey. Can't speak for the rest of the SBC this year. If Charlotte can't beat Elon and Chuck Southern, there will be at least one CUSA team in the bottom 16 next year.

Cool story. We are talking about whole conferences here. Everyone already knows the 49ers will take some beatings next year.

Where'd you get those numbers?

SBC-5
MAC-5
American-1
MWC-2
Ind-1
CUSA-2

I used the Massey Composites of multiple ratings. I think yours is just the Massey Ratings.

Here's what I was looking at: http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm

RE: CUSA Massey Ratings as of 9/28/14
I like the Massey composite better than looking at any one rating individually. It cuts out the nonsense (there's one that has Marshall at #90 and one that has us at #6) by throwing out the high and low and averaging the rest. The lessens the effect on formulas that use previous years early in the season (like Sagarin) and gives you a good overall view of how the people and computers around the country view your body of work.

Actually, they would currently be third not second. But that's beside the point. Once they go through the entire Sun Belt schedule their rank probably won't move much and may actually drop some even if they keep winning them all. As we have seen in basketball that's how these computer rankings work.
