Alabama #1 in Coaches Poll
FSU's lackluster performances have finally cost them one of their #1s.

But not in the AP. The writers are still determined to stick with what they predicted in preseason, despite on the field results. FSU doesn't look like they should be top 4.

I noticed that BYU is ahead of Nebraska in the writer's poll. Its worth noting that South Carolina isn't ranked in the AP Poll, while the two teams they lost to-Missouri and Texas A&M- are, as well as Georgia and East Carolina, who they beat. ECU has no wins over currently ranked teams.

So the writers aren't totally biased against the non-G5. Although it certainly helps that BYU and ECU are schools that have been ranked before.

Lol, ND gets 500+yards, 31 points and wins by 16, is undefeated but is dropped a spot by the writers (not that the polls count for anything).

All of what you said is true, but I think it's also true that the Irish struggled for a lot of the time with a bad Syracuse team. The turnovers were fugly. It wasn't an impressive performance.

Like I keep saying, the polls are nothing but opinions. Opinions which no longer count. The only opinions that count having started talking yet.

Oklahoma deserves to be #1. Know that. ND is overrated, so just take your charity. 05-stirthepot

The "Poll" era is over IMO...the only "Poll" that matters is the 13 on the College Football Playoff Committee. It about the playoffs and the rest of the New Years Six Bowls...07-coffee3

Completely agree. I was just tweaking the whining Golden Domer, because you know, they're always getting screwed by the system.***

I wonder how many coaches watch other teams play (other than their future opponents)?

That is funny. Because the two teams that beat Alabama last year are all still undefeated this year. Auburn and Oklahoma.

RE: Alabama #1 in Coaches Poll
The polls are total b.s., but they still get to push their propaganda every week until the selection committee starts their work. This builds a public opinion that the committee will have to deal with. I'd rather not have them at all. AP voters try to sell newspapers and bylines in their most populated areas. Bloggers use them to get hits for ad money to support their sites. Coaches appoint someone within the A.D. to vote for them. Fans use them to remain in denial until the season is over. It's all so worthless it should be tossed into the crapper and forgotten about. But like every marketing ploy ever born it will be harder to kill and keep buried than a vampire.

Who says the committee has to deal with public opinion? No matter how they rank them there will be a bunch of complaints.

Well except that the committee plans to release their own poll, and in the history of polling, nearly all human polls, no matter the make up of the pollsters, end up with the same results. Especially at year's end. Did you know that for 19 years straight, the AP and coach's poll have had the exact same top 4 teams? In the 20th year, they had number 4 and 5 flip-flopped. Then another streak starts. The committee makeup mirrors a LOT what the coach's poll is made of, including several who used to vote in the coach's poll. To expect drastically different results, and results uninfluenced by the AP and coach's polls already, is to completely ignore history.

Those polls matter. They matter a lot. They may even matter more than before, because they are not automatically balanced out by the computers like they used to be.

Really not a big deal at this point. The polls will just be one of many tools the committee uses to select the four teams for the playoffs.

Your mistake was to confuse sarcasm with "whining".

I think these polls are now pretty meaningless.

Well, Alabama and Oklahoma now have a similar opponent in West Virginia....

But lets ignore that, and ignore the Sugar Bowl last year and go ahead and stick Alabama #1 03-banghead

the good news for Oklahoma, is all you have to do is win out and you're in....

No confusion here. You were whining. And sarcasm can coexist with whining. They're not mutually exclusive. Just saying.
