Herd in the AP
Picked up points in both polls this week. 30th jn AP and Coaches polls.

Good news is

Just ahead
TCU vs OU this week
Clemson vs NC state this week
Arizona vs Oregon this week
Nebraska vs MSU this week

Sets up nicely if we take care of business, Marshall could be #25 or #26 next Sunday.

Yeah I think State blew their wad this weekend. I don't see them playing all that well this week.

True. But Clemson couldnt beat fsu with winston out and is 2-2, vs a ncstate team who almost beat them with. I think state takes it.

You don't know State, they play like chit in Death Valley, and like the other poster said, they blew their wad against FSU. State has a history of doing that. FSU actually has a losing record at Carter-Finley Stadium. 07-coffee3

Did you watch the same FSU vs NC State game that I did…FSU came out flat and turned the ball over, NC State went up 24 - 7 in the first quarter. FSU actually dominated the game after that point, the only way NC State even remotely stayed in the game was all the gifts FSU gave them and they still lost by 15.

NC State is much better on offense than they were last season but thinking they will win in Death Valley is a bit of stretch…Anything can happen each weekend in college football but NC State winning at Clemson is a huge long shot IMHO.

The more (ugh) 'G5' teams that can crack the top 25, the better.

I don't know, what made 25 teams top 25 teams before they played anybody?

Here's my argument for why Marshall may be a top 25 team:

We are 4-0.
We have out scored our opponents 103-6 in the first half.
We are the only team in the country to score at least 40 points in our first 4 games.
Our first team defense hasn't given up a touchdown in last three games.
We rushed for nearly 300 yards against Akron and beat them by 31 (game was 41-3 when we pulled our starters). Penn State only ran for 106 against them and Pitt, with the leading rusher in the country going in to the game, only rushed for 129.

There are most likely 25 or more teams that would be 4-0 with our schedule, but I don't think there are more than 25 teams that would have laid down the consistent high level of output, both offensively and defensively, that Marshall has. It's not always about the opponent, but judging the execution of the team you are evaluating.

I don't care if we are in the top 25 now or not. The only thing that matters is where we are at the end of the regular season. If we don't keep winning none of this will matter. We can only play the teams on our schedule.

If I were voting, I'd have Marshall in the top twenty-five, as a lot of voters evidently do.

Because they are a good football team and most definitely a top 25 team this season? Another tidbit, a teams schedule does not determine how good the team is, how they play does.

Teams like ECU , BYU ,and Marshall will make their moves up the polls in the latter half of the season if they keep winning. The victories are the one thing that the "institution" cannot control.

RE: Herd in the AP
I know some are looking at Marshall's OOC schedule, but the way I see it Ohio is a traditional rival, and a team that has handed Marshall a few losses in recent years. I don't consider this a 'bad' game, due to the history between the two teams. You lost Louisville and had to pick up a replacement game, nothing you can do about that, really. Miami and Akron are dogs. Are the Zips a good team, or does Pittsburgh just really stink this year? We'll have to wait and find out.

In years past MU scheduled aggressively with the likes of VT, WVU, and Wisconsin. The bottom line is that Marshall has dominated their OOC with a pretty large scoring margin. Do I think ECU has done more with their schedule? I do. But an undefeated Marshall certainly deserves a ranking and access consideration.

Having said that, go Monarchs 05-stirthepot
