Charlie Weis out at Kansas
They could tolerate his two losses to Rice, but losing to this Texas team was just too much.

What are they going to do? Nobody is going to be able to win at Kansas.

Guys like Briles get a lot of coaches fired because an AD can look at him and think that kind of turnaround can be done anywhere.

Mangino is still coaching isn't he? He was able to do it, though it's probably no coincidence that it happened while K-State was going through the doldrums under Ron Prince.

Jake Spavital is worth a look for them. I think that dude would be a great coach.

Good - don't like him anyway. He should stick to offensive coordinator jobs but his ego is too big to go back there after ND. He should have stayed with the Chiefs after the ND gig. He will go back to the NFL again then try to be a head coach at the college level again if someone gives him a chance. Thought he was overrated at ND as a head coach before the pooled the plug on the TUNA experiment.

Maybe Mangino, now at ISU, and our newish AD get along well? Both were at KSU previously.

I think this is ridiculous. Who's going to take the Kansas job? You get three years or you're out Kansas! What kind of world beater coach is going to take this job?

Same type of person that turn around Kansas St or Duke. It has been shown it can be done. Weis is a good assistant but not a head coach. One coach I would seriously look at would be Jim Grobe or going younger Ga Southern's coach.

Spurrier started at Duke and won a conference title.
Mack Brown was at App St. and then Tulane (of course he got out as quick as possible-but went to a bb school-UNC).
Holtz I believe was W&M and then Minnesota.
Stoops is at Kentucky.

Lots of up and comers will take jobs at programs like KU.

For us really old guys, one remembers how totally hapless the Kansas State football program was and how Kansas totally smeared UCLA 51-30 in the Aloha Bowl. Now look at these two programs....two lessons on how a hapless program can become strong....and how a good program can deteriorate into oblivion.

This isn't meant as a defense of Charlie Weis. But it sure took Duke more than three years to turn around, and only time will tell whether that turnaround has legs.

Football is still a zero sum game, so for one program to rise, another must fall. Bill Snyder can't live forever.

Kansas was top 10 in 1994. They were top 10 in 2007 and won the Orange Bowl-over Wake Forest. If you think any position is hopeless, let that sink in. Kansas vs. Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl.

None, but Charlie Weis would not have gotten it done in thirteen years.

RE: Charlie Weis out at Kansas
Why Kansas hired Charlie Weis in the first place is beyond me. If he was any good, he'd still be in South Bend. He was the head coach of a program that kids around the nation dream of playing for, and he could pick and choose among the best recruits in the nation. That's something only a very few schools can do. Yet he couldn't win there with everything he needed to succeed. Why Kansas thought he could succeed at Kansas, when he couldn't at Notre Dame, mystifies me no end. IMO it's just proof that the folks in charge at Kansas haven't a clue about football.

IMO Jake Spavital is too smart to take a dead end job like Kansas. SMU would be a better job. At least they invest in football. Kansas football takes a back seat to Kansas basketball.

Uh, remind me who Weis and KU beat last year?
