...I haven't seen that kind of domination in a while (104 yards of total offense?) and the play calling was, shall we say, rather uninspired.

It almost looked like the game plan was not to get blown out.....

Ah well, on to Cincy. Hopefully the coaching staff will take the wraps off the O up there.

RE: Wow, the O got throttled....
I think the OM D had something to say about our play calling..... They took half the playbook away with their speed, and another quarter of it away with their pressure THROUGH our O line. We just don't have the horses.... yet.

Maybe so but we didn't really even try anything much.....or maybe they are just so much better on D than our O that it just looked that way......

I really wish Bowen would slow his roll and given Fuente another year or two but he didn't so whatever.

That's how I saw it. Running different plays wouldn't have changed a thing. They pressured our offense at every position.

They seem to be the real deal for sure.....

We won't see another team anywhere near that talented this season; which is a good thing. I think they'd beat the **** out of UCLA.

Mississippi's defense played great. When we recovered the muffed punt though on their 40ish yard line I was disappointed that we did not take one shot downfield from there. When we ran 3 straight times and punted, I think that just was not playing to win.

As stated, we don't have the personnel yet. I hope we can sign some 3 star prospects in february, but I'll believe it when I see it.

The offense was crushed. I am surprised that the staff couldn't figure out a little something. I mean 112 yards total offense? That's poor. The Tiger D was good.

The O line needs a little help or work; what ever you want to call it.

RE: Wow, the O got throttled....
Our offense is not up to par yet in competing with top level defenses like that with that kind of depth however our defense is certainly very close to being top level if we can add more depth and strength. Other than that first bomb for a TD, we frustated and kept Ole Miss at bay until the D ran out of gas late. I was there and the Ole Miss fans were frustrated and angry and complained that it were the refs keeping the game close and I told them no it wasn't

Well Ole Miss didn't over look us. They did some studying. They knew when Craft was in the game that ball was going to him and they were on top of every screen. Playing a team with that much size and speed, the coaching staff should have made changes to the play calling but they are young and learning like the players. The impressed me. Anyway we better get ready to open the check books because we are going 10-2 or 9-3.

Ah well, on to Cincy. Hopefully the coaching staff will take the wraps off the O up there.

They are first time head coaches and coordinators. That wasn't too hard to figure out.

Lets not try and make excuses about playcalling.

That was about OM's defense, not what plays we called. The play call simply doesn't matter when you are getting dominated at the line of scrimmage.

We are dramatically better, but we still don't have SEC talent like that.

The Mississippi defense played well.

AND our offense played really poorly. Odd play calls, many drops, a few too many unforced poor throws...plus a strong defensive effort, equals a bad offensive outing.

And trailing by 4 with the football late in the game with a real chance to win before the defense gassed out.

Unfortunately, I have seen this scenario (tough D, inept O) since the eighties.

2003 is the only year since the seventies that we had a really good offense AND a really good defense at the same time.

Hopefully Fuente can be the coach to put a complete team on the field.

Yep. Seems like we never have enough speed for both sides of the ball. We really looked slow out there against them.

That's not the scenario we really face this year though.

We actually have a really good and highly productive young offense, we just aren't ready to face an elite SEC defense yet.

And we won't see another defense of that caliber the rest of the season. Not even close.
