A 37,000 student university located just outside of Austin with brand new facilities and a recent infusion of money to support a move to FBS.

Texas State has actually been around longer than the majority of the AAC, some by many, many decades (like UCF and USF). Of course, it would look worse if they still went by Southwest Texas (Teacher's College).

Yeah but you just joined FBS 3 years ago. And age is all in how you spin it. Half of the AAC has been playing MAJOR college football for about as long as your university has existed.

When do you think MAJOR college football began? It didn't just start up in 1869....it was into the 20th century when it got organized and became a major anything. Fact, until after WWII it wasn't as big a deal as now. The IAAUS was the first to organize it and proclaim champions/have Bowl games (started 1906). By 1906 6 of the current AAC teams U's still did not exist, TXST started playing in 1904, and the rest (except Cincinnati) were fledgling at the time. No, TXST did not get to go the elite route but we finally made it and are trying to build a good program. Is this a problem?

I'd say, given the examples of the University of Chicago's stadium size and the hype of Notre Dame's Fourhorsemen in the 20's among other things, that college football was popular long before WWII though obviously not on the scale it would become popular.
