RE: Back to Reality: We're Not a Good Football Team, So What's Next?
Keep in mind that many of our players have never played for UAB before (frosh & JUCO) and that the veteran players are from teams that went 2-10 or 3-9 in 2013. There is only so much magic in FBHC Clark's magic wand to produce a winning team from those he inherited. I think UAB is on the right upward path and will succeed as players learn how to win. Looking at today's scores from around the nation, we are not alone in being disappointed, but we have much to look forward to as well. We are a "good" FB team but not the only one in C=USA and we will be trying to move up to "better".

Here in Memphis, I have neither TV nor radio to go by. I'm just reading the posts here.

If you're referring to me, I actually was positive coming into this game. Besides, where else can you vent about the one step forward, 5 steps back nature of UAB football?

Lets just stop making excuses and all come to the conclusion that we suck. We beat Troy which was our Super Bowl and the rest is gravy

Baker wasn't our best defender it was actually K. Jack. Where is Brackett, either him or Milligan should start at CB hell put Petty back there, Farmer should just return kicks. Mondie was playing great early on in the game. Carter and Davis could replace Baker. McCullum can replace Jackson or Ganus so Banks can play more.

We've had 3 games where we executed very well, generally, and 1 where everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I'm not saying we're definitely as good as when we've looked our best this season (hell, that our first possession today was clockwork), but I find it hard to believe that we're AS bad as we looked today, generally...it was just too extremely out of character for what we've seen all year (regardless of competition...I'm talking about our execution of the game plan and things we could control).

To add insult to injury: remember that Pittsburgh team which beat FIU 42-25? That same Pitt lost to Terry Bowden's Akron Zips today.

I'm surprised we only lost by 14 with 6 turnovers. It's clear that qb is our glaring weakness on offense. People are just going to stuff the box and dare us to beat them through the air.

Overall our defense did adequate considering how many extra possessions they had to defend. 2 huge pass plays is all they got. FIU never had any serious drive all game.

I would look into starting Briscoe he has the higher ceiling. We basically know what Clements bring and he burns holes into his receiver before the pass come. We can build with JB especially since CBC is going to be here for a min.

You lose 95% of games where u turn the ball over 6 times. Make 2 of those pick sixes and it moves to 99%. The raw inexperience of our qbs under pressure ruled the day, combined with replacing our two best playmakers on defense and moving petty from corner. We are neither as bad as we looked today or as good as we looked against troy and msu. Now we find out how good this coaching staff really is. Can they help the team get their belief back?

+1.

It was as if, FIU did an excellent job of scouting us. And they manhandled our wideouts all day. And their QB Magoo, bringing his granddad & uncles as referees and umpires didn't help anything either.

The refs seemed as blind as mr magoo. More importantly we made a seasons worth of mistakes today.

Woooo man we play one bad game and everyone freaks out haha.

I heard one guy in the crowd screaming for Clark to go back to Jacksonville.

I agree. I've said that from the start. If it's close, just get the young guy out there. I figured we would be a .500 team or so at best this year, so just go ahead and let him learn. Neither guy has looked great.

You guys wanna start the qb who had 2 pick 6s in 5 attempts? 2 of his passes made up the winning margin. Two of his passes accounted for > 41% of their points. Not sure I'm ready to throw that guy out there as the full time starter just yet...

Cousins threw 4 INTs the other night against the Giants but I still believe he is still a better pro-style QB than RGIII. Maybe Briscoe just needs more reps in practice.

Overall, there is enough blame to go around in all aspects of yesterday's loss.

+1, and Clark said he divides the reps equally in practice between the 1's and 2's.

He has the better arm, and he is also much rawer. It pays dividends later to start a young guy and let him learn on the fly. It is very shortsighted to not look at the value in doing this.

We need to stick to one qb. That 2 qb system never works..
