Two ex-Rice coaches in the top eight. Should we be proud?

Same comment as on the conference board...

This was my first college road trip, too:

How Watson Brown lost more games than any coach in college football history - ESPN

The significance of the game can be seen only in the rearview mirror. The loss dropped the career record of Brown, the Owls' first-year head coach, to 18-19-1. He never got his record to sea level again.

You have to do something right to lose that many games.

I remember an article a long time ago about a MLB pitcher who lost 20 games in a season. it said you had to be pretty good to get to pitch that many games.

I HATE references like this...

The 1985 Aggie team finished #6. While certainly you get better, you don't go from 'mediocre' to #6 in one year.

That 'mediocre' 1984 Aggie team beat 13th ranked Texas (who tied #3 Oklahoma) 37-12 in Austin and featured guys like Ray Childress, Domingo Bryant, Kevin Murray, Roger Vick and Craig Stump.

By record, yes they were perhaps mediocre and young at some positions (Childress was a Senior IIRC), but I think that speaks to the quality of the SWC in the day... rather than to the ills some want to assign. The game was simply different back then.

Remember that British trader in Singapore who in the mid-1990s became the first man to lose $1 billion in trading? Making $1 billion is one thing, but losing that much is quite a feat. And he single-handedly caused the collapse of Britain's oldest investment bank.

I'm not sure it's so accurate to say that he "made" (read: earned) that money to begin with. He didn't seem entirely legitimate.

When I saw the subject line for this thread, I thought maybe Todd Graham was in the mix for another head coaching position and was going to break the record for most dream jobs acquired in one career....

Well, Tennessee Tech lost big to Northern Iowa today, so he's got loss #200 and the record.

And still holds the title of winningest brothers in D1. Coaching the underdogs leads to a lot of loses and even more successes in life. Credit is due for the wins when you look at how he has changed the life of so many young men and programs.
