Trojans add another administrator in athletic department
Today's Democrap paper says that the athletic department has promoted the swimming and diving coach, and she has been designated as a senior women's administrator. I assume that is increase in salary. As I said before, we have a **** pot full of assistant and associate AD's, and now I assume we have at least two senior women administrators(I assume that by guessing that surely the head volleyball coach is at least a SWA or some kind of AD). Money is getting tight and we add administrators. Sounds kinda like the government. I don't guess anyone can blame this one on Chris Peterson.

I guess the more administrators you have in your department, it makes you look more big time. What they should look at is raising the salaries of some of the minor sports coaches, and paring down the number of administrators. I don't see how they can get anyone to work for some of the salaries they pay, unless the spouses have a well paying job. Even the assistant basketball coaches could use an upgrade. Too much cream on the top for a program no more successful than ours.

eh. this looks like a minor title/pay bump to the current swim coach. department lost its former womens administrator to the woofs a couple months ago. this way they save money by not hiring a whole new person for the old womens administator job, give swim coach more to do. so lrt this is your raising salary of minor sport coaches suggestion.

Sort of like banks: they give titles instead of money?

I'm all for paying our coaches(all of them)better when we can afford it. The better the pay, should mean a better coach. My problem is the same one I have with all governments and school districts. Too damn many administrators. And in our case, no more success than we've had, what are they doing besides getting in each others way. I suspect that in this case it has something to do with Title IX.

All UALR employees are State employees so their salaries are public record. Anyone with time and a little energy can look them up. A small number of staff have been there for years and likely have decent salaries simply based on longevity. Overall, my guess is that not too many coaches/employees in the athletic department are overpaid relative to their peers at other schools. I may be wrong, but someone could check it out if so inclined. I might even do it, if I have some free time. For the most, I feel most folks in the department work hard and we get our money's worth. I think we will see more evidence of what they can and will do this year.

I never said they were over paid, and I'm guessing that they certainly aren't. I'm just saying that we have too many assistant/associate AD's for a program our size without football. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians, and not paying the Indians we have, enough money.

RE: Trojans add another administrator in athletic department
We're not paying the head coaches of a D-1 program enough to get good coaches, with the exception of Foley, who should certainly be paid more. I don't know how we're keeping him, other than he evidently doesn't want to leave Arkansas and he's getting older and probably won't be coaching many more years. I certainly believe Shields is being paid more than he's producing. If they ever make a change, they're gonna have to raise the salary to get a good one, even a good young assistant. I guess you get what you are paying for, again, with the exception of Joe Foley.

Nolan is retired. Maybe he would come on as an unpaid volunteer coach. That could be the first for a D1 program.

I wish we had hired Nolan when he was a little younger. Probably a little late now.
