Schedule filler. Why cant people get this. USF already has numerous "p5" teams every year so its not about adding niu to knock mac out of access bowl. Sometimes u just have slots to fill after all of your other requirements have been met. Nothing more. USF has Florida state at home so I dont think they're worried about bringing another top draw that year.

Isn't the general idea to try to schedule 2 P5s, 1 G5, and 1 FCS every season OOC? IMO that's a good G5 grab that fits well with their already scheduled 2 P5s and FCS opponents...

I don't mind the series. It's a good opportunity for USF to smash a perennial "powerhouse" G5 team on national TV. Twice.

I get that...except I don't get why you would schedule a home and home with a MAC team when you are from Florida and you can schedule a home and home with CUSA or the Sun Belt. Like I said, I understand why the MAC wants a game in Florida...

Seems like there would be a lot of other options if you were looking for a G5 home and home to fill the schedule.

While I would have rather seen a local Sun Belt or CUSA team instead, is there really that much difference between a MAC team and a SB team? The only difference is the SB team may bring a couple hundred extra fans. USF already has Syracuse, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc. so at this point they were just bringing in another body and for whatever reason it worked out with NIU...who is usually pretty good every year too.

Am I missing something here?

They'd be better off scheduling FIU or FAU home and home...or Georgia Southern or South Alabama or Georgia State.

I can understand why NIU wants to schedule this...they get an AAC team in their place, and they get to go to Florida for recruiting...win/win.

What is going on at USF?

Plus, real good chance USF loses...

We are 2-1 vs them 04-cheers

What's that got to do with anything? I'm sorry but I just don't see the benefit in this game. It's the same thing with our AD signing a home / home with Marshall 2020-2021. Makes no sense. There's no recruiting or exposure benefit there and there's a decent chance you lose.

We wanted to get up north in the fall and see the leaves turning color.

No kidding!

NIU is a quality program no doubt, but if we are going to be a great program we ahve to be able to beat solid programs like NIU. We have beaten them in the past and should be ready to compete against them again in 2016/2017. Again, not a slight against NIU but both have higher ambitions than just beating each other.

Simple: we shouldn't be scared to schedule good competition.

NIU is neither a world beater nor bottom feeder. They have been a Top 60 or greater program collectively over the last 8-10 years so these are the kind of games that build character and prove that you are a good team. We used to schedule games like this all the time with Leavitt and we typically did well in these types of match-ups. At some point you have to move beyond the posturing and just play football. Again...if we lose to a quality team like NIU how can we ever hope to return to form where we were beating Auburn, FSU, Miami, Clemson etc.. on the road?

Cyber. The bottom line.

NIU is good. They will probably beat USF both times. This is bad for USF's program.

BTW: They would beat most progams in the American.

They are a good program that will be a main competitor for an Access Bowl. We have crush them twice in that time period. If we are to be a top team in AAC and hopefully be ranked nationally we should not be afraid to beat teams like UNI.
As for what do we gain from playing them. Well I guess P5 schools could ask the same questions on why should they play AAC teams

Funny to see AAC fans not wanting to play UNI or Marshall and then turn around and expect games vs UNC etc.

Really? Ad how do you know where those two programs will be two years from now? We crushed them 4 years ago.
