D didn't show up either.

They showed up long enough to win us the game! Man what a finish!

It was a combination of A&M defensive adjustments in gap assignments, and of Arkansas's inability to finish intelligently. The Hogs have a lot of talent, but they need to readjust offensively when the defense makes adjustments against them. Kudos to Sumlin and staff.

You can almost say that. 4 1/2 of the P5 are overated.

Honestly, I don't know if it's parity or what... But there aren't many impressive football teams this season. Everyone has some noticeable flows.

I've commented on it each of the past two years, but the fundamentals are so lacking for players coming out of high school that just as with most high schools coaches place their speed and talent on the offensive side of the ball and make do on defense. Hence the rise of the spread. High school coaches like Malzahn and Freeze realized that a decade ago when the jr varsity and pee wee leagues quit having coaches who knew enough about technique to teach it. Add to that the disappearance of the concept of "team" and the rise of the egocentric high school stud who must have his azz kissed by recruiters so that he can have his 15 minutes of unintelligible fame prior to pulling a college cap out of bag and what you have on many campuses is the need to pander to these kids or lose them to transfer.

That's why we have DVD's of the kid morphed into a college (you pick it) game where it shows their crowded stadium urging them on to the Heisman before he has left his junior year of high school. That very practice is just a visual reminder of how little team play there actually is anymore. College ball is becoming just high school ball on steroids and pro ball is devolving as well. We keep the spread because it is designed to cover a weak defense (see Auburn and Baylor and Oregon of last year) and to run plays the kids were used to running in High School or plays in which they can improvise, because most of them can't learn the playbook let alone the individual assignments within it. It kind of reminds me of when a Sargent Major of the Army told me about the color coded ammo cans that matched the color coded arms bunkers so that soldiers who lacked basic comprehension skills would know that the ammo from the blue can went with the guns from the blue caged bunker. But hey nobody in our higher education want's to take responsibility for such so we just don't talk about it. You know kind of like the cover up of stuff at U.N.C. and other places. But I digress.

So my assessment CP is that parity exists because of the decline in teachable talent, and in fundamentally instructed talent, is universally sparse and the Southern teams have it better because we simply have a larger pool of sparse talent from which to recruit.

The Yale Bowl is big, but it is ancient. Unless it was completely renovated recently, it's not at all FBS quality.

To some extent we are returning to normal. At least normal for the 80s and 90s and some of the 00s (once scholarship limits kicked in). There's just been a huge gap between the top teams and the rest the last few years. There seems to have been more blowouts and fewer big upsets.

Not any worse than the Scarlet Knights cutting through the Green Wave like it's warm butter, put up or shut up American fans, seriously. And I've always been the reasonable Big Ten fan on these boards.

50-28 Ohio State controls Ohio, I dont want to hear one more thing said about the Big Ten from AAC fans, only fanbase in that conference that has any room to talk to is East Carolina who may as well have been ACC champs this year.

RE: Laughable Scores - Week 5
The score isn't laughable, but Syracuse's unis today are. They've combined the worst aspects of the all-gray uniform gimmicks with helmets that are the same ugly shade of orange as the alternate helmets that Oregon State wore once last season.

The greenish-gray unis that Miami is wearing tonight ought to go in the dumpster, too.

Notre Dame is playing some really good defense this year. With that said, there are a few games coming up that will really test them on that front.

And for the second week in a row, a team goes back-to-back on laughable scores, for the wrong reason the first time and the right reason the second time.

Last week: Indiana 31, Missouri 27.
This week: Missouri 21, South Carolina 20.

Syracuse's uniforms.

Even the announcer on the Mizzou/S CArolina game was commenting on them.

Unless Georgia gets it together the winner of the East is liable to have 3 losses and gain selection by a tie breaker. The Gators sure don't look like a champion either.

UGA's defense isn't consistent. Neither is the offense, which is hard to explain with their stable of RBs. And Mason really is a pretty good passer.

I just don't think their offensive scheme is in sync with their talent. Their defensive woes are another matter entirely.

But seriously the South Carolina / Mizzou game was a yawner. Neither of them looked like they wanted the game. Carolina outplayed them by a smidgen but not enough to say they deserved the win. If you take away the bad overtime call in the first possession of the Florida game Kentucky has played with more purpose than most of the East. IMO Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Missouri will all suffer losses to the West in addition to any they swap with each other. It's as seriously flawed as this year's Big 10 and the ACC. I think the West is simply going to be a blood bath, but I still believe that the winner of the West will have no worse than 1 loss.

Arkansas exposed some A&M issues today and with proper end game management could have easily won. I'm glad we've played them already because they are going to beat either L.S.U. or Alabama. They just match up favorably against the pro style offense. L.S.U. is inconsistent. Auburn can't dominate the middle of the line like they did last year, although the defense is much improved. Alabama has the pieces but hasn't played a complete game yet and then there is that match up problem looming with the Hogs. Mississippi State could be real. Ole Miss is just hyped.

And as Gump says, "And that's about it."

And Spurrier was giving another speech about why his team isn't any good this season.

You know, I thought they were predicted to challenge for the SEC Championship in the pre-season. Must have been another South Carolina team.
