Obama learned from Clinton that you get a greater amount of publicity if you shut down stuff like monuments and national parks than if you shut down the House Gym, his favorite military golf course, the Camp David staff, and White House kitchen staff.

The government shut down only hurt those who didn't have a decision in the shutdown.

If a president had any balls, he would've with held payment to anyone in Congress, their staff, and the WH staff. Instead they chose to shut down things that tax payer's dollars paid for. Look at one Rep or Senator's salary. How many government employees would they have to lay off to equal that?
