I haven't seen this posted here.
I'm not surprised, but unless those 58% start ponying up mind boggling amounts of cash, it won't matter. The current 2 parties have the cash market cornered and won't be giving it up anytime in the near future.
In politics - without cash, you're just a lonely tree falling in the woods........................

In countries that use a multi-party system, elected officials
tend to merge into two majority voting blocks. Resulting in the
same polarization on issues that a two-parry system enjoys.
I’m guessing it’s simple human nature.

RE: 58% of American's want a 3rd major political party
LOL....a third major party....Never, and I repeat, never would one of the two major parties ever allow it to happen. in fact, they both would work together (I know, weird huh) to make sure the third party is trashed and maligned in the media and made out to be full of one or more of the following: racists, wacko's, unintelligent, violent, gun-toting, bible thumping, nazi's, communists, etc., etc., etc.
There's a reason the Tea Partiers were so maliciously portrayed in the media and by certain politicians as wacko extremists. To the average American, the Tea Party has lost it's appeal because they have come to believe what they've been told about the Tea Parties but yet, there's little to no evidence to support this image.

"independent" should be a party...guys like Ron Paul and Gary Johnson have proved 3rd party candidates can get votes.

The problem is that they don't all want the same kind of third party.

I prefer to four parties. Sure most issues will dive into two voting blocks, but there would some interesting voting blocks along the way.
I highly doubt that many Americans want a 3rd party, otherwise they'd vote for a 3rd party candidate.

The Tea Party was s rebranding effort of a damaged brand. Look up WorldCom or watch The Wire Season 3.

RE: 58% of American's want a 3rd major political party
Rebranding is a marketing strategy in which a new name, term, symbol, design, or combination thereof is created for an established brand with the intention of developing a new, differentiated identity in the minds of consumers, investors, and competitors.[1][2] Often, this involves radical changes to a brand's logo, name, image, marketing strategy, and advertising themes. Such changes typically aim to reposition the brand/company, occasionally to distance itself from negative connotations of the previous branding, or to move the brand upmarket; they may also communicate a new message a new board of directors wishes to communicate.
Rebranding can be applied to new products, mature products, or even products still in development. The process can occur intentionally through a deliberate change in strategy or occur unintentionally from unplanned, emergent situations, such as a "Chapter 11 corporate restructuring," "union busting," or "bankruptcy."
