RE: The Links At 5/3rd Field, world's 1st outfield mini golf
Regionally I have no problem with downtown Toledo winning out over Rossford. The region is stronger with a strong core. You will be hard pressed to find a mid major stadium that does both hockey and baseball.
If you want to complain, ***** about the land locked casino that didn't go downtown where it could have made an amazing quadfecta with the two stadiums and convention center. Now it is a drive-to destination with practically zero future development opportinities. It is locked by I-75 on one side, the river on the other, a major factory that is not going anywhere on the other, and a residential neighborhood to the south. No hotels, no room for future development and downtown Rossford sees zero traffic from the casino because people drive there then home.
If the casino would have gone downtown or in warehouse district you have existing hotels, hotels ready for redevelopment, docks, parking revenue, lots of spin off development opportunities and ready to build historic storefronts. More job opportunities, more traffic from the two stadiums, convention center and concerts and potentially hotel tax revenue. The only advantage the current location has is freeway access.
Can you visualize a summer pulling up to promenade park on your boat, going to the casino, hitting a hens game or a new bar or restaurant, then back to the casino, or back to your dock. #awesome. There could have been a downtown trolley service between venues, etc.
Alas none of this will happen because of the dumb ass location, but hey nobody asked me. Hell, we could have bulldozed the Erie Street market, built the casino there and solved two problems.
No offense to Rossford, but for the greater good the casino should have gone downtown, produced more revenue, jobs and more development could have happened.
