Hinshaw reported that one passing play didn't work against Miami because a receiver told him he couldn't hear the play call over the crowd noise.

I also noticed that the PA guy was playing loud music when UC had the ball and especially coming out of TV timeouts. If Gunner wanted to call a play he could not do it verbally. The PA idiot is supposed to do this to the visiting team, not the home team.

Wow . What a comprehensive piece on this week and the state of UC football as a whole from ESPN . Nice.

Agreed.

I always thought Brian Bennett gave a fair shake. He was not on board with us early on but by 2009 he repeatedly stated we were the class of the Big East and commented we did not get enough national praise.

Andrea Adelson on the other hand never embraced us. Louisville could do no wrong in her eyes and from what I have read she still is a Card supporter.

The band did it once as well - and they are hooked up the the PA system.

"You hear alumni saying we could go 0-11 as long as we beat Ohio State," said Luc, the Florida State transfer who racked up 18 tackles versus Miami. "I'm like, 'You're by yourself on that one.' But that's what the alumni want to see."

It's Xavier-esque thinking like that is what keeps this school looking small time. Bravo for Luc and his response!

I wouldn't give up 11 games just to win this one, but if we were only going to win one game all year I know which one I would pick.

RE: Nice story front and center on ESPN's CFB page
I want to win all the games.

That being said, this game is very important for UC. As others have mentioned in other threads, UC has won many games the past seven or eight years but they have not won on the road against a team with the gravitas of Ohio State. This would be a major feather in our cap. Look how much "street cred" Louisville got after beating Florida a couple years ago (and Boise for beating Oklahoma several years back).

Second, I truly believe there are still a decent number of people in the Tri-State who do not completely buy into UC football because it is "not on the same level" as "big time programs". We beat VT, Pitt and West Virginia... they say those teams were "down"... We beat Oregon State and NC State.... they say those teams were not that good to begin with... If we beat Ohio State we will 45K+ in attendance for Memphis and every game thereafter unless the wheels fall off the cart. Conversely, if we taken to the woodshed by Ohio State those Negative Nancys will gloat about how right they were about UC. Attendance for Memphis will be under 30K.

Agreed. We have some friends who are OSU folks and have attended UC games with us on occasion. He was stunned that we weren't going to Columbus this year for the game. I told him we've made that trip before and we've decided to do different road games each year to see other campuses, stadia and cities. My perception:he believes it's so special for UC to be annointed with the honor of playing in the Horseshoe again that he just couldn't imagine we'd pass it up. I understand that emotions run strong among our UC fan base regarding OSU but it's unfair to our program and players to act as if it's an honor just to play them.

Great article by Bennett. Exposure is always a good thing and this has been a great week for it.

Very good analogy. Luckily, the people Luc mentions seem to be an extreme minority.

Sounds like a problem with the media folks. There are people that coordinate everything from sound effects, to the announcer, band, etc. They communicate with the band's drum majors via headset, and when they say "PLAY," the drum majors have 5 seconds to get the band hitting their first note. Everything is planned out and controlled in big time football, second by second, because there's a lot of money on the line between advertisers and sponsors. Hopefully someone has addressed this to our media people (since it's their job) so we can let our offense take care of business.

Eh I don't know about that. Maybe about the 0-11 stuff, but there is generally a little brother complex from UC fans toward OSU when it comes to football. The buckeye state shirts are a perfect example.

In basketball, we look down on Xavier and that attitude. In football (and this has a lot to do with the football program essentially being in its infancy on the national scene), there is a lot of looking up at OSU and trying to tear them down. You can see it on this board repeatedly throughout the year.

The quote we're talking about, heavy on hyperbole, indicates that it would be ok to forfeit every game if they just win this one. After all we've accomplished in the past decade or so I don't know anyone who feels that way.

The t-shirt was designed by adidas, as far as I know. Winning this game doesn't mean that I'm going to claim Ohio as mine, as OSU fans do. It would simply be 1) a good top 25 win to build on and 2) a means to shut up some OSU friends for a while.

Much rather watch OSU on TV. No interest in being up in the nose bleed section with a terrible view.

Great post O 04-bow I love the way you buck (no pun intended 03-lmfao ) the crowd.

I rarely discuss Ohio State, except for this game. Now, if the overpaid Big Ten schools lose to the MAC on occasion, I will comment on THAT once or twice.

We've done just fine with our growth since 2006 (although our growth, in terms of season tix, has slowed since the 12-0, but that is another topic), and none of those years has Ohio State visited us. And, come to think of it, they have NOT even been on our schedule since 2006.

Sure seems like no one is giving UC much of a chance to even keep this game close, however ESPN's Trevor Matich gives a whole lot of love to Gunner and the UC passing attack. Click on the Drive Through video on the right and fast forward to the 7:15 mark.

Some love for UC
