There are quite a few FCS defenses that are better than ODU's.

They sure do look better when they play FCS offenses.

The frustrating thing is that Hampton scored more points on ODU than any other FCS team on their schedule except one (not counting the non-D-I school they played). A 2-8 Delaware State team shut them out.

Eh, transitive property in sports is tough.

Although I like it when I can do things like this:

Div I - FBS Old Dominion beat Rice 45 - 42
Div I - FBS Rice beat Army 41 - 21
Div I - FBS Army beat Ball St 33 - 24
Div I - FBS Ball St beat Akron 35 - 21
Div I - FBS Akron beat Pittsburgh 21 - 10
Div I - FBS Pittsburgh beat Boston College 30 - 20
Div I - FBS Boston College beat USC 37 - 31
Div I - FBS USC beat Arizona 28 - 26
Div I - FBS Arizona beat Oregon 31 - 24

Therefore, Old Dominion is better than Oregon in 2014
as shown in 9 rounds by a combined score of 301 - 219.

That is correct. I also believe Oregon would score 219 points against us. 07-coffee3

Odu vs. Hampton and Delaware st. Vs. Hampton isn't really transitive property.

It's really just a straight comparison of the two schools vs. the same team.

We barely stopped them the entire game.

Delaware st. Stopped them every possession of the entire game.

We aren't judging how odu would do vs. Delaware state or any other school. Were just pointing out our defense has been weak all season long, even by some fcs standards........and it hasn't really changed.

It hurts to lose Staton, hopefully the staff can find a long term solution at linebacker.

Hampton also had different players on offense than when they faced us. Really tough to take head to head vs. one team vs. another serious.

I mean, we beat Rice, who is beating everyone.

True......but statistics are statistics.

We have up 42 against rice and 28 against Hampton.

Right now the only statistical outlier is the emu game because it was played in a monsoon.

Without that 3 point allowed game, our defensive stats would be the worst in the country.

The overall point here which was originally made is accurate, there are multiple multiple fcs defenses which are currently better than ours.

Really tough to know that since for the most part you are comparing teams playing against FBS schools to teams playing FCS schools. And FBS school may call off the dogs when up 30 points on an FCS school, which makes the statistics look better.

Our defense got crushed by FBS schools last year but held non triple option FCS offenses to 16 points per game. Very difficult to compare.

I know the weather was bad, I was there, but calling it a monsoon is a bit over the top.

It was a light drizzle. I sat in shorts and a t shirt and didn't notice it.

The EMU game was a mystery. I was there, and the weather wasn't that bad. (We performed better in much worse against JMU).

In any case, it's the only explanation for how we held them to 3 points, or how they held us to 17. Not sure which one surprised me the most.

Considering that 2-7 EMU has scored a total of 129 pts. this season and only 61 points in seven losses ( >9pg), holding them to 3 is not so surprising. In hindsight, even though the Monarchs offense was slow to get going this year, I am still more surprises they only scored 17.

Yeah monsoon was an overstatement.

But it was extremely windy and wet, which made throwing the ball (or more aptly, CATCHING the ball) a very tough task and it showed on the field.

I remember us having a ton of drops in that game.

Wind is a far greater deterrent to scoring than rain.

ODU... Making every opponent's offense look like University of Oregon since 2008

Why did it take the German Army three days to conquer France?

It was raining.
