Hundreds of Colorado students protest curriculum changes that promote patriotism
Hundreds of students walked out of classrooms around suburban Denver on Tuesday in protest over a conservative-led school board proposal to focus history education on topics that promote citizenship, patriotism and respect for authority, in a show of civil disobedience that the new standards would aim to downplay.

Stupid ace kids. I'd throw each one of them in Detention for a month and make them read great books of my choosing.

If one of these kids was my son or daughter, I'd force them to move out, get a job and support themselves. Maybe then they'd get in touch with how lucky they are to live in America.

I prefer to let the historians write the textbooks not the politicians.

It isn't just Californians. All the big Dead Heads I went to high school with either live in Colorado or have at some point and this goes back 17 years having nothing to do with the pot. A few of them whose parents had money even went to the University of Colorado... from Virginia. Something about Colorado has always drawn them there. Looks like their kids are now school aged.

Unless we're talking about dinosaurs, every age of man has written down their events as they unfolded at some time or another. To be the most accurate, it's best to go by what was written then, from drawings on cavern walls and rocks from the stone age, to letters and findings in the 19th century. What happens is that people try to add some flavor and seasoning to the stories they find and it ends up altered.

For example, why does our government downplay aliens and UFOs when there have been drawings on rocks and in caves of what ancient Egyptians saw thousands and thousands of years ago? They couldn't make something like that up. Same with Native Americans drawing pictures of large animal like creatures standing 8 to 9 feet tall with brown hair covering their bodies.

Edit: That was a bad example but you get the drift.

Funny, everything I know about the founding fathers would lead me to believe there isn't anything more patriotic than telling the government that you won't allow a white-washing of it's history and past dirty deeds.

You have proof this is "white washing"?

And that's assuming you actually know something about US History.

One of the best days ever was when Colorado announced they were running to the Pac-12 because they couldn't compete with big bad Texas and Oklahoma. I hated going to Boulder for Texas games.

"Rocky Mountain High, Colorado" the song was a beacon for Hippies that couldn't hitch hike as far as California. Now with Both states having legal MJ it's only fitting Colorado students prepare for a future to take it's place after California slips into the Ocean after the Big Earthquake hits.

I have as much proof as anyone in this thread instantly vilifying these kids for walking out on what they feel is politically motivated modifications of their curriculum. If this was curriculum about praising Obama and the ACA to encourage patriotism, and thousands walking out in Texas, every poster here would be cheering them on.

The point is, no one here actually cares to learn or read into anything outside of using at an excuse to hate or deride those whose political views they assume are different than their own.
