Insulted AGAIN! Thanks CBS Sports
I emailed Sport Network before over calling Texas State TsU over TXST, I even included the universities guidance on nomenclature so I didn't just look like it was a personal preference. They have never fixed it. During the Illinois games the score at the bottom was TXST, but other graphics during the game were TSU.
I've just come to realize that its going to happen.

Don't know how this descended into a who uses GSU debate. The commentator said ""Georgia Southern" in his description of State's humiliating blowout by Washington. That's my beef!

And that is the point. Failing a TCU or Boise type of run the press could care less to get that stuff right. Their preference is to not even have to mention us.

The fact is, over the last 20 years or so the news media (including sports) have done a shoddy job of information gathering, interpreting, fact-checking and disseminating the product of their very existence. It's almost like the first person to get the news out wins, regardless of accuracy. This has even filtered down to news items that have no urgency or great importance. Coupled that with a hyper-sensitive audience and you have this thread.
Why are we spending any more time with this issue?

I dislike the confusion just as much as anyone, but if both schools keep doing what they do, it will work itself out over time. I emailed a college football morning show just yesterday about confusion I heard between the two names on a topic being discussed.
The truth is that the label of GSU getting associated with Ga State has nothing to do with them at all. Around the country, or at least with teams/schools people commonly know, in the abbreviation of "X"SU the S typically stands for State. It's that simple. It would be a false sense of pride to think that someone watching tv thinking State when seeing GSU had anything to do with the merits of the school itself. The label isn't as important as a sporting news professional being competent at his/her job and knowing enough about the games they are talking about to get at a minimum the names correct of the schools playing in the game.
Chants at games etc are one thing and will likely never change since the people at the game aren't confused about who's who, but I really wish that, at least for the purposes of the scroller or score on Espn etc, that we would just skip the whole GSU vs GS argument and just go with Ga Southern. I've seen it like that on there before, so space isn't a problem.
We have a prime time ESPN network game tonight, what is likely to be a great tv crowd from what I'm hearing, and a chance to go 2-0 in the conference in our first year here. Let's enjoy it. All that isn't happening because folks doing the scheduling or whatever did so mistakingly thinking they were scheduling a Ga State game.

We shoulda stuck with Georgia Teachers College, maybe? Personally, wouldn't bother me if we were still Georgia Southern College.
And I don't care what CBS calls us. I do find it somewhat amusing that this move to FBS hasn't instantly meant everybody gets our name right or we're on ESPN 30 times a day and the topic of water cooler conversation around the universe.
I mean, moving 'up' was all about 'respect', right? The perceived lack of respect the school got at the FCS level, mainly.
