Opportunity is limitless. Entrenched same old same old government and a negative newspaper will always hold it back

Seems like our violent crime rate might be overstated. Anyone else think that?

Interesting to see the % drop in unemployment in all 19 cities.
Plus Toledo's average cost of housing is second lowest only behind Detroit.

"Median home sales price" may be more reflective of what is actually selling as opposed to average cost of housing; not sure. Any real estate experts among us? I'm thinking the "median" may not be a particularly significant number--other than there are an equal number of houses selling for less than that as there are houses selling for more than that. It doesn't really reflect the lows and the highs, or the average.

Average lower than median, I think it would mean that housing is so low that it can be bought up and used for government subsidized housing at nearly no risk if it's left empty. The house and property are worthless tax base.
It's "opportunity" for slum lords, many who do not even live anywhere near the city or sometimes, not even in country. Of course, if the slum lords have not bought up the market and driven up prices, it's also opportunity for unskilled labor, new citizens... to own a home but the city does not seem to have any program to encourage that. Instead, they have photo ops of government officials, Congress, local, standing in front of $200,000 homes with subsidized tax and purchase aimed at low income families who have barely contributed while the working have to pay, pay, pay to keep up their older housing.
Boggles the mind.
Of course, I could have the whole theory completely wrong but that's how I understand it at this time.

Any way you measure it, the cost of housing in Toledo is very affordable.

Yeah. I know a guy who move here from Cleveland years ago after losing his job due to downsizing during a recession. For a few years he kind of intended to move back to Cleveland when he could. But, he came to the conclusion that there was no way he could afford as nice a home in Cleveland as he has here, so he decided the stay. His kids all grew up, he's still working, and still here.

Well, I live in the city that just made #9 of the best places to live in the USA on the Money Magazine ratings - Rochester Hills, Michigan. It's all hype.
