UTSA has between 105k and 110k.

The University of Southern Mississippi at the end of the 2014 academic year had 113,715 graduates of which 14,040 were dues paying members of the alumni association. Alumni assn paid membersip peaked at over 22,000 just over 2yrs ago but suffered a decline as did all phases of the university due to our athletic dept turmoil. There is no record of the number of living alumni as most contact is between dues paying members. The 14,050 is the most important figure, how do the other universities compare with that? I dont know if there is a record of total number ever attending but didnt graduate.

12% is a very good number. Not up there with the Harvard's of the world, but a very respectable number. I am to assume 14K+ is anyone giving to the university for any area, whether the USM Foundation, a building fund, or contributing to athletics. Is this correct? Or is this alumni association an entity of its own in which there is a standard amount for any alumni to join?

The alumni association is a stand alone organization supported financially by dues paying members (currently over 14,000). It is NOT a part of the Foundation (group engaged in overall university fund raising) or Eagle Club (a separate organization whose members support overall athletics) or the hardwood club (basketball) or the diamond club (baseball).

There are a lot of meaningless numbers being thrown about in this thread without any documentation. There is no way to know how many are living alumni, some kids leave school and are never heard from again, etc. Also, schools use different definitions when discussing alumni.

If you want a comparative list then ask how many GRADUATES and for overall school support how many paid members in their alumni assn. Start over and ask for those numbers.

1. 326k for UNT as per: MDH
2. FIU just surpassed the 200,000 mark as per: FIUFanatic
3. Marshall: 150,000 but that number might include wives, etc... according to some previous Marshall posters *could be as low as as #9: I have heard our alumni base is around 105K as per: SVHerd
4. more than 124,000 now for ODU as per: dveyanks90
5. Southern Miss has a little over 120,000 living alumni as per: Eagle Lurker
6. UAB has over 115,000 alumni as per: UABslant
7. Was just over 110k as of June 2013 for Middle Tennessee as per: Blue Raider Dave
8. Charlotte: I would guess we are around 110k at this point as per: Nugget49er
9. 110k at UTEP as per: zyxwvutsru
10. UTSA has between 105k and 110k as per: Irish Rowdy
11. WKU has just over 102k as per: wkuhilltopperfan
12. LaTech: The latest number I've been able to dig up is from 2013. It was ~76,000 then. So we're probably around 80k now as per: Sixwings86
13. ~52,000 for Rice as per: NoodleOwl

Still looking for numbers from: FAU.

Updated the list for ya. Interesting that no one has commented on the sizable gap UNT leads by. Why so many from UNT already? Also, anyone know FAU's numbers? Rice is definitely smallest and last in this metric.

Impossible, not happening. They graduated 3.6K in the class of 2013. We are lucky if the average person lives 50 years after graduation. If for the past 50 years UNT graduated 3.6K (didn't happen)and if each of those are still living (also not happening) that is only 180K. That 326K number must be the number of people who have graduated from UNT rather than number of living alumni.

the north Texas state number is made up wiki BS

the citation by wiki does not even support the 326K number

it leads to a link that states 175K in 2005 and even if you added 8K a year (that would be 25% of total enrollment on average graduating every 4 years or a 100% 4 year graduation rate) that would be only 255K and that is if no one died for 10 years as well

Those of you that have that dues paying alumni association thing going on, what are those dues and what are some of the benefits you get with being in the association?

Well, first of all at usm you get a card with your name on it stating you are a member and for how many years. Then you get a list of businesses including hotels, motels, restaurants, rental cars, airlines, etc that offers discounts to paid alumni members. Then if you live out of state the alum assn will cover out of state tuition charges for your son or dau to attend usm. Usm has over 30 organized chapters throughout the nation whereby you can get pretty close to usm people wherever you are, especially all the metropolitan areas. They coordinate the local meetings with reps and speakers from the campus who might attend. These chapters in addition to the alumni assn offer scholarships. USM assn has a large facility on campus which serves as meeting place, luncheons, overnight housing, and probably one of its most popular services now is providing a facility for weddings and wedding receptions. The dues are $50. which isnt much in the grand scheme of things.

Wow, that tuition deal is incredible. I don't see how you make the dollars work with it being only $50. As you were going along I was thinking you were going to say $200. At $50 I don't see how you don't have 100k in the association. Even at $200 I would think you should have 25K participating.

What is the difference in the cost of OOS tuition vs IS tuition?

FIU is similar to USM except for the payment of out of state tuition ( I'm impressed). Dues are $45 annually or $600 for lifetime membership. 125k of the 200k is in south Florida.

$45 x 20k is about 900k annually so I can see USM being able to support out of state kids from that pot. As to why more alums aren't dues paying members, that may best be answered by a psych major.

I believe USM waives out-of-state tuition for children and grandchildren of alumni. However, the Alumni Association does offer about $20,000 in scholarship money to children of alumni, in addition to the scholarships awarded by individual chapters.

I see that the out of state waivers were initiated at the beginning of our 2013-14 school year and I wasnt aware of that. That will be a big relief.

Ours is very similar to So Miss.

We also get email updates about different things related to athletics. Pretty sure we get a nice big write up each year too.

We also get first dibs on away game tickets. Like the game at Charlotte this year. I already bought my tickets through Marshall by being a Big Green Member. This game will definitely sell out.

Different levels give you different things, but I am poor so I only donate in the lower levels right now. We also accumulate points. You get points for different levels AND years you have been donating. Every so many years (I think it's 5) all seats are back up for grabs. People with the most points get first dibs on the seats. We just started this, and it did piss some fans off, but in the end it was a success and is going to be a huge success going forward.

Also on one of our message board herdfans.com We can display that we are a Big Green Member on the bottom of our post. All we have to do is give the administrator our BG ID number so he can verify its legit. Then he puts it on there. I'm proud to display mine.
