What's wrong with wanting your AAC school to get a P5 invite?
I want ECU to get a Big 12 invite. It's not possible for an entire 12 team league (any size league) to get an invite up to the big boy table. It's never happened, it never will. Knowing this, I want a strong AAC so that ECU's wins look better in our over all profile to get us to the big boy table where we belong. What's wrong with that? Do any of you guys want the AAC to get a call up to the big boy table (A "P6" conference set up) over your own school getting into the P5? USF, Cincinnati and Louisville fans: Did you want CUSA to rise up to the BCS in 2003, or were you content that the other 8 schools got left behind, and you were brought into the Big East?
BTW, if I thought there was any chance that all 12 AAC programs as a whole could get into the cartel, I'd probably look at things differently. I stick with probability over hope. CUSA from 1998 to 2004, and the MWC from 2004 to 2010 were both very good conferences. The MWC actually had multiple seasons of 3 out 9 schools ranked in top 25, and in an 8 year period had 4 seasons where they had a team finish in the Top 5. (Utah in 04 & 08, TCU in 09,10) BYU finished in top 15 the majority of that period as well...They deserved an upgrade, but the powers that be blocked it. Tulane deserved a BCS invite in 98; same injustice happened. Knowing this, I want nothing more than ECU getting a Big 12 invite and I'd think you'd want the same for your teams. Again, how is my thinking wrong on this?04-cheers

UCF to the Big 12! I'm all for rooting for your team to join P5.

Aresco has to try to get the AAC to the big boy table. It's his job and our conference goal. But no hard feelings if individual programs move up.

Not that we need another thread like this, but Memphis or Cincy have a much better shot than ECU ever will of a big12 invite. In my mind the only invite that would ever make since for ECU is also the least likely, and that's the SEC. ACC already has too many NC schools, big12 would be too much of an island. It's SEC or AAC, and we might as well make as much of the AAC as we can because it's as far as any of our teams are likely to get in the next 20 years.

1. That's not reality so why ask that question.
2. And since we are not dealing with reality, I would want to leave and join a conference that we have closer natural rivals. I would rather be in a conference with closer schools like Pitt, WVA, UofL, IU, OSU, etc. Memphis would have much more fun in a conference with closer schools that people locally actually wanted to see come to the Liberty Bowl.

RE: What's wrong with wanting your AAC school to get a P5 invite?
Do I think the AAC will ever be at the big boy table? NO. Do I want UCF at that big boy table? YES. I will be happy to see the AAC join a P6, or even be a true tweener league, And would be happy to be part of either step up. If the AAC can get 2 of the next 3 Access bids, continue to be strong in BB, and go into the look in time at a place of stability, With an extension maybe we could double or if real lucky triple the TV deal. In an AAC who gets 3 to 6 x what the G4 receive is not a bad place to hang out while we build.

probably not, anymore than I want to be in a conference with Toledo, Western KY, and Miami OH

I didn't say every school near you...I imagine deep down you would want to be in a conference with Tennessee, UK, Ole Miss, UofL, etc etc. If not, ok. If I was a memphis fan, I would.

Let's be honest...what is a bigger home draw for you:

UCONN
Tulsa
UCF
Temple

or

Tenn
Ole Miss
UK
UofL

I won't lie: I didn't feel the least bit bad for the schools left behind. I'd say that I don't now, but I'd be lying. Truth is, there are some deserving programs in the American that I feel all deserve to be brought up and in. Cincinnati and UConn both lead the pack, IMO...but both Houston and Memphis could have strong cases made for their inclusions as well. Count me amongst the Louisville fans that HATE the fact that the rivalry with Cincinnati has, at least for now, come to an end.

you don't understand the difference between having Texas, Oklahoma west virgins etc will have in attendance, $$ from boosters and tv coverage vs the AAC visiting BH stadium now? You don't know what a giant difference that would be for the program? You weren't paying attention to what happened to the other school in the I-4 rivalry after they joined the big east in 05 I guess....wow. They moved up and on so quickly they refused to schedule you anymore saying that you guys weren't on their level.

Yep. It's one of those questions that don't need asking.

For a twist, why not make the AAC and MWC as a relegation league like in Soccer? Top 5-6 move up and bottom 5-6 of the P5 move down. Would make things very interesting.
