Memphis single-handedly takes the luster out of next week’s 3:30pm CBS kickoff from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium by handily winning the battle of field position by downing 80 percent of all punts inside the 20 yard line coupled with great defense that will force enough turnovers to create enough points to pull off the upset of the day.
[ SCORE: Ole Memphis 18, Ole Miss 9 ]

If we beat Ole Miss then expect the Ole Miss and Tennessee series to be canceled

Saturday Night proved that we dont need SEC opponents on our schedule. There are plenty of other conferences
to schedule great OOC games with. We have done the SEC thing long enough time to change courses.

Good. Past the time of needing an $ec opponent. Only wish Tom Bowen saw it that way.

I totally agree. Let the Liberty Bowl kiss the $ec's azz. Time for the U to move on and tell the $ec bye-bye.

Beating good SEC validates your program...

And lets not forget we don't have many ranked programs lining up to play home and home with us. Especially if we start winning those games.

Me too.

The SEC doesn't care about us, why should we care if they stop playing us

I think that we should start concentrating on (if we can) scheduling more Big 12, and the MWC. If we are ever gonna be a power 5 team, it will happen in the Big 12. as they said back in the day...."Go West Young Man"

A win against OK or Texas, is just as big as a SEC win, especially the Ole Miss and Tenn's is the SEC

beating Mississippi Validates nothing, been there done that give me a break. We have beat our heads against this
wall for 30 years geez get a clue! What have we gained from playing these games over and over? These games have
really built great facilities...., these games have prevented far more than they have built within our football program.

So this guy thinks Memphis has enough lock-down DB's to shut down Ole Miss' passing attack and only score 9 points?

Bo has thown for over a thousand yards to almost a dozen receivers and done it playing only 8 1/2 qtrs.

He must know something about Memphis' DB's that nobody else knows.

I would not say validates- but beating good teams is a good thing...and at least right now, Mississippi looks good.

But beating them, as Memphis basically does about 1/3 times since our kids started playing at the same level...traditionally has meant beating a second division SEC team..and may this year too, although it is possible that Mississippi finishes above 4th for a rare time.

04-cheers If we have aspirations of joining any other conference then we should be forging relationships within that conference. In years when scheduling such is a problem then try to arrange something with another p5 team from a conference not named sec. The sec teams only see value in playing us for getting an added level of of exposure in a market already "owned" by the conference. Playing teams from whatever p5 conference we wish to join will help demonstrate the value of the Memphis market to someone that may actually ask us to the dance.

Downsouth, we have been playing this tune for years and years. It has gotten us nowhere, history shows this. It has
built nothing as far as facilities etc. It has only made recruiting for these teams easier in our area. The close loss at
UCLA built more momentum than anything in recent memory. That is a fact that cant be argued. That alone shows
there are plenty of options when it comes to scheduling OOC games. Id say the OOC SEC games have done more
damage to the program than good.
I enjoy the games as much as anyone, but I also see what it has gotten us over the years and Im not sure how
those facts can be argued.

Memphis has much more to gain by playing SEC programs in football than they have to gain by playing Memphis in football.

Like it or not, the SEC is top dog in college football. A win against any team in the SEC will garner some national attention.

A win against Memphis by SEC teams elicits yawns.

Hopefully that is changing.
