Yeah I know, its more just the road ahead which is demoralizing. Its like walking through a maze you have walked through 100 times and knowing if you make it to the finish there is nothing there waiting for you worth anything. I hate to say such a bleak statement but I can't deny how I feel. That's why I hope someday that the college football playoff gets expanded somewhat to include conference champions
Man, the possibility of a huge, exciting game against Toledo at home on a cold night in November and the chance to go up and hang out with you ******** at a nice ass hotel in Detroit...that's just so....demoralizing. That might actually be the dumbest thing you have ever said. If you can't get excited about this season then why are you even a Huskie fan?

Good God. If you're not throwing around insane criticism/predictions you're randomly throwing negative comments into a thread for no reason. Why do you even post on a message board for a program that is in such a "bleak" situation?

I'm looking forward to the encore. Sean Frazier is killing it even while he's out of town.

NIU budgeted $426.5 million in operating revenue and $425.8 million in expenses for fiscal year 2014, got that from northern star

I will be excited for Toledo! Its just this dark cloud of p5/g5 which is really demoralizing to me. I feel like the effort to trivialize everything non-p5 is gaining a lot of momentum, heck just read some of the posts on this message board any given Saturday. That is why I am so glad Frazier is stepping up to the plate with this scheduling, the MAC has no future even though I feel like it is an EXCELLENT athletic conference. Unfortunately perception is reality, even if it is an effed up perception.

The only chance of a conference change is if it comprises some of the MAC teams with some other mid majors. The Big 12 is an impossibility. Our Ath budget is about $19mill. The avg Big 12 budget is about $50mill, maybe more. Arkansas budget I belive is $98 mill which may be what NIU whole school budget is.

while I know NIU is not going to the big12, this argument only works if you put the BIG12 team TV revenue and split bowl on top of NIU's current budget

Budget for fiscal year 2015 looks the same as FY14, so the university budget as a whole is much larger than Arkansas athletic budget, unlike what was mentioned in a previous post.

Though he did not specifically state it GCD was referring to athletic budgets for Ark, etc.

just like we didn't "plan" on getting to the orange bowl, but rather it was a nice surprise at the end of a season's road, you should never "plan" as a fan on NIU going to a 'bigger' conference. Just enjoy the damned ride, and if it comes or not, so be it. Maybe we need to get slaughtered one more time to bring all these pie in the sky "big 12" material fans back to earth.

RE: SchedulePalooza Part 2
12-1 NIU would still have a good chance at the Access Bowl. Other Teams are going to lose and a good chance they lose multiple games. Maddawgz does make a good point. In basketball the MACC is a part of the big show for sure. In ftball the MACC is not. Also can people stop saying we have a new quarterback as a excuse. Many teams have a new qb and several are playing without their starter due to injury. This is a part of ftball. Arkansas and FSU are just several td's better than NIU. There is no shame in that! IOWA and KENT ST. are the two best teams NIU has beat in the last ten years. Saturdays game was predictable. I said don't take NIU unless you get at least 26pts.

I got that, he said Ark's athletic budget was $98 million, which maybe what NIU whole budget is.

I'm just showing that NIU's entire budget is not the same as Ark's athletic budget. Actually Arkansas total operating revenue in FY13 was $401 million with total enrollment of 24,537 in fall 2012

Add in state appropriations and Ark's total revenue was about $600 million in FY13

NIU is one of the youngest teams in the country regardless of position. Hare just happens to be particularly young and inexperienced to be playing the most important position on the field.

I love how the excitement of ANOTHER schedulepalooza got squashed by the doom and gloom of whether or not we get included in certain bowl games or playoff scenarios. This message board is nothing but hot trash sometimes.

Its squashed a little but at the same time it is good to have something positive after last week. Could work out to be great timing. I still dont know how Frazier keeps this annoucements from leaking to do this.

A lot of the new guys who haven't been around for very long seem to be falling into this area. Guys that have been around for a while (you, me, 7, John, HB, BobL, Rak, Cawoo, GCD, klake, Jon, 1981, even MD to an extent), are more reserved and seem to be enjoying the incredible ride we've been on the last 5 years. Give them time and they'll come back down to earth...hopefully.

So to bring it back on topic... Any early guesses for this round of Palooza teams? I would assume MWC and Sun Belt are out. I am thinking at least one AAC team in the fold this round.

I like alum90's guesses but I have to think there is a Soldier Field game coming this week, either Nebraska or the Irish would be my guesses (perhaps NU or Illinois at SF could be a possibility?)

I'm guessing Indiana and Ole Miss in home and homes. And the Illini in Soldier Field.

Hopefully this is the last time in NIU football history that NIU plays 3 straight road games. I do think that could have played a very small part with what happened Saturday.
