Game Five - Stony Brook
The 1-3 Seawolves have had some bad luck this season losing by a TD to Bryant in game one, just losing to David Corley's UConn by a FG, and by ten to North Dakota. SBU was only down 3-6 in the 3Q when N. Dakota returned an INT 92 yards for a touchdown. SBU was statistically the better team in most categories with the exception of turnovers and they allowed seven sacks.

SBU is ranked 4th in the FCS is passing yards allowed (113.4 ypg).

A few things stood out to me:
1) SBU commits a lot of penalties; 37 so far good for 86 yards a game. We're #4 in the FCS in penalties per game (3.25).
2) They've converted a mere 19% of their 3rd down attempts but have only allowed their opponents to convert 22% (#4 in the FCS).
3) They've been outscored 0-24 in the 3Q.

The Seawolves run D seems to be very good only allowing 2.2 yards per rush. Of note, they are ranked 7th in red zone defense and #6 in scoring defense.

Their #1 RB (Bedell) is averaging just under 100 yards per game albeit against mostly lesser opponents. Our front seven better look like the 2nd half against Lafayette if we hope to contain him.

Their DB/Rover (Ricard) is a tackling machine and has already posted five sacks.

I predict John Carpenter will be our game MVP as points are going to come at a premium. Play smart Tribe football, continue to minimize turnovers (we're ranked #10 in TO margin) and penalties and I think we'll be okay. It is hugely important that we go into our BYE week 4-1 as we prepare for UNH.

BTW, we're tied for #1 in blocking FGs.

Let's hope we get the complete game effort we're waiting for. SBU has Coker back at running back and he is a very dangerous threat. We need to get healthy.

Anyone know the story on a video feed for this game? Can't make it out there to see it in person.

Seawolves TV...looks like it may be free.

SBU has a solid messageboard. I joined when they joined CAAF and was cleared to post within hours.

Did we sell out our allotment of tickets for Stony Brook already? There doesn't seem to be an option to purchase on tribeathletics.com. Would be great to have a solid contingent on the road to support the team.

These guys are no chumps. They've invested a lot of money in athletics up there, have a lot to offer and should be getting some athletes.

Also this is their Homecoming game. Don't expect them to make it easy.

The concussion crew are listed as starting on the game notes, but those are probably assessed right before the game again to see how they're doing. Airek Green still out with that boot on his foot.

Man, Stony Brook lucked out with their schedule. Us and UNH are the only currently ranked team they play, despite the fact that 6 teams in the CAA are in the top 25

They play Albany too who is top 25 on at least 2 polls I have seen. Is the 6th team Delaware? I have seen them as ranked 25 in 1 poll with no votes in the other polls? That said, missing Richmond and Nova for them is good luck

Ah, missed Albany. Yeah, I count Delaware as ranked. It's interesting how teams can go from ranked to no votes depending on the poll

Out: Airek Green and Hunter Windmuller ruled out by Laycock against Stony Brook -- not too surprising

Questionable: Durant and Hilland (O-Line) are questionable to return this week

Probable(/Questionable): Laycock also said he "hopes" Abdul-Saboor and Ballard are back

--info coming from David Fairbank's tweets

I'm still pissed that wasn't roughing the punter. The whole stadium was going mad

A real shame about Windmuller. Very strong leg and he gets both distance and hang time on his towering punts. Hope we get him back, although nobody seems very optimistic, after
the break week.

Carpenter is a good punter and an excellent kicker. Windmuller's punting is outstanding. The blown call only makes his abscence worse. Not worried about Carpenter's punting, but it is not the weapon that his kicking and Windmuller's punting is.

Apparently Stony Brook has been out recruiting UD and dipping into the transfer pool. It was mentioned last night they have about 12 transfers on the team.

Watching Stony Brook at ND on Fox College Sports Central now. Mid 2nd qtr with 0-0 score. The one play the announcers say is working well for ND - the QB scramble.
