Buncha sissies. j/k guys, but there's definitely 2 schools of thought on this. We have little or nothing to lose, and a lot to gain. Would you feel the same if we whipped them Saturday?
I waa thinking Wusses myself. Play some good teams. It makes the losses not sting as much and makes the wins greater.
I know no poster or Tiger fan objecting to playing good teams. The problem is playing Ole Miss offers more disadvantages than advantages. I recognize good Tiger fans like it, but I do not see any rational reasons presented yet demonstrating that the series is in our best interest.
Playing them doesn't hurt a damn thing, IMO. It's not rewarding their "Memphis fans." Hell, if they can't drive 60 miles to see their team play, then they're not OM fans, anyway.
The Ole Miss AD disagrees:
"It’s exciting for our fans both in Memphis and here in the state to see this natural rivalry resume in both sports,” Bjork said.

Usually coming off a bye game, the team comes out and performs better. In Ole Miss's case, their next game is against The University of Alabama. Memphis game is important to them, but doesn't hold a candle to how bad they want to beat Alabama. Let's hope the either come out flat or looking ahead! Cant wait to see us rise to the occasion, fellas!
This is probably the biggest factor in favor of taking the points!!!! Underrated team in a classic look ahead situation.

Funny how former AD Pete Boone didn't share in that sentiment. Seemed to remember about how the series had "run it's course" or something which coincided with us winning a couple of games against them.

They will drop the series if the happy day arrives when the Tigers win consistently.

Point of order. Ole Miss and Memphis had an 8 year home-and-home contract from '02-'09. Nothing about the ending of that contract coincided with Memphis winning a few games, as Ole Miss won the last five, several of them blowouts.
The series was not renewed for one and only one reason - they couldn't agree on basketball scheduling.

The phrase used by their AD was "the series had grown stale", if I'm not mistaken.

RE: Memphis @ Ole Miss opens at +24
Realistic response is that we will see the difference between a "mid major" football wise and a major. Our 1's will be able to compete and hopefully even lead over their 1's. However, late in the second quarter and the fourth quarter, their 2's will be stronger than our 2's. Likely means a loss, but hopefully we earn area respect by playing them close and scaring them a bit. Of course even better if we can pull off the shocker and beat them, but don't want to get thinking that way and get disappointed.
28 points is way high for our fairly high level defense. Two touchdown favorite seems likely with an additional three points for the home team. If we lose 30-20, Cincy better watch out as we will have shown we can compete with the big boys and when on even recruiting terms (with a fellow American team like Cincy), may have a shot at Cincy.

Who has Mississippi played? That's what I thought. Memphis will be the best team they have faced year to date.
