Middle Tennessee @ Old Dominion; I'm starting to drink the Monarch kool-aid on their offensive abilities. This will be close.
UTEP @ Kansas State: Wildcats are going to be looking for blood after the Auburn loss.
FIU @ UAB: Blazers running game will overcome stout FIU defense
Western Kentucky @ Navy; I want to be very wrong on this, but see Navy winning at home.
LaTech @ Auburn; See no chance for the Dawgs, dog-gone-it.
UTSA @ FAU; If Johnson doesn't fumble last week, they win at Wyoming. Will win at home
Rice @ Southern Miss; I'm going to call a stunning upset here.
Charleston Southern @ Charlotte; CS has too much fire-power for the Niners, I'm afraid.

Have at it, guys!

I appreciate the vote of confidence....but you're nuts.

You aren't the first person to tell me that, but we'll see. I sense you guys are getting a bit of your swagger back. I agree it would be an upset, but not a jaw-popping one, the way the season is shaping up.

Yeah...meant in jest.

Appreciate the kind thoughts.

I don't know if I would describe it as "swagger" but there's certainly some fire there.
For a team in our situation, it was necessarily to have those Alcorn and App State games around the SEC games to maintain that fire.

I felt like what happened last year was that the team played a brutal three-game stretch after dropping that close opening game and just got tired of getting the **** kicked out of them. By the time they got to some beatable teams, they had nothing left inside. I know in any sport it is difficult to maintain any kind of fire when you know you are outgunned every single week. It has got to be doubly hard in football since there's the added negative of physically getting your ass kicked for 80 snaps.

We'll get one or two C-USA wins. I don't think this will be one of them, though.

RE: Wk. 5: Lines in the Sand
FINAL RESULTS: Wow! That was surely an interesting week. Conference games are proving very difficult for us to assess accurately...which makes for an exciting conference season. This, week, not many of us were very accurate...only 62% correct, in the aggregate...our second worst showing. But goliath74 did well with 7 of 8 correct picks. Through week 5, Nasty Bunch remains in first place, by a scant vote, with an aggregate of 42 correct picks.

Here are the final results:

Middle Tennessee -41 @ Old Dominion - 28
UTEP -28 @ Kansas State-
58
FIU -
34 @ UAB - 20
Western Kentucky -
36 @ Navy - 27
LaTech - 17 @ Auburn -
45
UTSA - 37 @ FAU -
41
Rice -
41 @ Southern Miss - 23
Charleston Southern -
47 @ Charlotte - 41 (OT)

I was 7 correct and 1 incorrect this week. I only got the FIU-UAB game wrong. Dang you UAB.

FIU took it to all the posters. Only Cnelson was right on the UAB loss.

Ollie, I went back and checked my records, and your post (post #5). I have you missing on both UAB and Charlotte, which makes you 6-2 on the week. Still a great showing. Let me know if I'm wrong and I'll fix it.

Middle Tennessee @ Old Dominion - I do not think ODU's defense can stop MTSU's offense right now.
Saturday, September 27, 2014
UTEP @ Kansas State - Kansas State may be too big for UTEP at this point.
FIU @ UAB - My upset special.
Western Kentucky @ Navy - I have questions about WKU's ability to stop people but they can certainly score plenty through the air.
LaTech @ Auburn - no chance for LaTech
UTSA @ FAU - FAU's home. FAU's 1-3 record is a bit deceptive.
Rice @ Southern Miss - Rice is a better team overall.
Future Conference Mate
Charleston Southern @ Charlotte

Almost 100%, missed the OT loss by Charlotte. 04-cheers
