Louisville was breaking in a new QB as well, a redshirt sophomore who hadn't started a game since his junior year of high school.

Why wouldn't that be Duke?

That would be their only competition.

Probably a good thing that Wake and Duke don't play ECU more often. I would hate to give the AAC any more ACC pelts to hang on the wall.

Let's not make ECU out to be more than they are. They've had their fair share of stinker seasons. Last season was only their 2nd time winning 10 or more games in their history...and that's playing against subpar competition. Right now they are hot. Let's see what happens when Carden is gone and they have to break in a new QB...or when they lose their hot shot OC to another school.

Which NC team is better than ECU right now?

None. History doesn't matter at this point. It's fun for dUNCe and NCSUx fans to bring up but they also won't bother telling you we've been a revolving door of coaches and the 80's were especially brutal on ECU road whoring so we could build a D1AA program. They also won't bother telling you that almost ALL of our games have been played in their house. We're still basically dead even in our NCSUx series. The truth is that ECU is pretty much coming into it's own in the past 20 years having a semi-level playing field.

I'd be willing to bet we'd skull drag Duke right now just like we did dUNCe. Sort of hoping we meet them in a bowl to prove it on the field but I'd rather play an SEC team.

I'm not anticipating a drop off with our next QB either. By most accounts he could be even better than Carden by the time it's all said and done. FWIW, our "hot shot OC" has turned down jobs at Notre Dame, dUNCe and Washington State. He's got a pretty good gig going at ECU and appears to be happy here. 04-coffee

I wouldn't be too worried if he does eventually leave. Ruffin isn't dumb, and he has worked under some very good coaches over the years. Danny Ford, Bobby Wallace, Jerry Moore, Pat Hill, and Mike Leach. I feel sure that he has contingency plans in place if Riley gets an offer he can't refuse, and it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't already have a system like Dabo has with Jeff Scott working side by side with Chad Morris doing game planning, etc. for when Morris moves on.

I can see turning down UNC and Washington State for ECU. They're both a bit of a coaches grave yard but turning down ND is amazing. What kind of job is he waiting for if he turned down ND?!?

RE: Bad day for the ACC
Probably the ideal head coaching gig (probably something in Texas, his home) or the HC position at ECU. I'm hoping Lincoln Riley is our offensive version of Jimbo Fisher. We've given him pretty good raises after he was approached by ND, dUNCe and Wazzou. Supposedly his wife loves being in NC. I think she's got extended family here, not positive though.

How do we know he turned town Notre Dame? All I have been able to find out is that he interviewed for a job as quarterbacks coach in January. Those reports don't say he was offered a job. As for why he might turn down an offer if one was made is that he is now an Offensive Coordinator, which he would not have been with the Irish.
