To make it that much more difficult for FCS schools to decide to move up.

(09-20-2014 11:29 PM)chiefsfan Wrote:  If the Arkansas State/Louisiana Monroe winner in two weeks goes on a conference run, I get a feeling we're going to be arguing about whose #1 for a while.

1. Georgia Southern: There is only one argument here. The Eagles walked into Mobile and absolutely obliterated South Alabama. No SBC team had managed that to this point. Arkansas State is the only team with a track record of success in that place, and its a bowl track record.

2. Arkansas State: In the end, Utah State is likely a 7 to 8 win team out of the MWC. Probably one of the top three teams in that league. This is a good win for the league and for the Red Wolves, regardless how inept the offense looked at times. Remember that Utah State shut down Jordan Lynch and NIU last year in a bowl, and returned most of those starters.

3. Louisiana Monroe: Yet another week where a team gets a bye and looks good for it. Warhawks results are confusing to figure out. Wake is terrible, yet they shut down ULM's offense. Idaho opened up some question marks on defense. However, they are 2-1 and play Troy next week (Which means 3-1) Gigantic league showdown in Jonesboro in two weeks.

4. Texas State: Officially I am going to fault the thunderstorm for beating the Bobcats. Defense just couldn't hold on late and the offense went quiet at the wrong point. Still, a good run for the Bobcats that should put them in good position heading into league play.

5. New Mexico State: Why Not? Has anyone else really deserved this spot? Lafayette has looked like crap for three straight weeks. South has 2 touchdowns in their last 11 offensive quarters. App still has work to do, and don't get me started on GSU, Idaho, and Troy.

6. South Alabama: I am putting the Jags here because of their defense alone. That is a decent defense down in Mobile, and it should win them a few league games. However, I'm not sure what we're going to get out of the Jags offense.

7. Louisiana Lafayette: Apologies to Cajun Fans...but I'm not staying up to watch the remainder of the Boise Bloodbath. Where to begin? Special Teams is leaking, Defense has more holes than a WW1 battlefield, and Terrance Broadway looks nothing like Terrance Broadway. Whatever is going on in Lafayette, they've got a couple weeks to figure it out before league play starts.

8. Appalachian State: Apps fought hard at USM tonight, but you can tell this is a flawed team that still is dealing with the transition to the FBS level. Still, I think they'll be better as the year goes on.

9. Georgia State: I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the Washington Locker Room at halftime today. What happened? Did the Huskies attempt to sleep walk through it, did Georgia State borrow the Seahawks defense? Because the 2nd half looked nothing like the 1st.

10. Idaho: Idaho will surprise someone in the SBC this year. But this is probably a 3 win team max. Too much work to do, and lots of adjustments to be made.

1,111 Troy: Troy is so bad they are not even the 11th best team in the SBC. This might be the worst team in college football this year for the FBS level. That is frightening. Blakeney needs to be put to pasture.

Not sure, USA is even that high. We've had zero offense since the first quarter against a putrid Kent State team.

Something is rotten in the USA offense. Dropped passes. Crappy play calling. Stupid penalties. Bad special teams play. Everything is a mess. I'm not sure we can beat anyone next week, including Idaho.

Week 4 Power Rankings
Dropped passes was USA's downfall last night. Completely different game if your wide open WR's hang onto the ball.

First time I've felt MORE worried about my team after a 22 point win. If we play like that for the rest if the year, we might only have 2 more wins this year. Our pass D has to get a lot better and do it soon.

Anyway, a lot of football to play and a lot can change from early to late in the season.

Because you aren't FBS.

Bowls are the post-season for FBS schools and transition teams aren't FBS.

The NCAA also imposes a cost on changing levels. Going from II to I is a five year cost. FCS to FBS is a two year post-season cost.

You want to move that's just part of the deal.

We have 3 bowls. I suspect we will have 3 bowl eligible teams. What if we had 3 and GA So and there was an open bowl? Could the Sun Belt shift a team to an open bowl and let GA SO play in one of our tie-ins?

9 eligible teams but I think 4 teams will have a tough time getting bowl eligible - Troy, GA St., Idaho and NMSU.
That leaves stAte, UL, ULM, TX St. and USA as potential bowl teams.

Will they all make it?

USA has a solid and talented defense, but there is no doubt when we had the lead our play calling became much more conservative than the last few weeks. We were mostly trying to run out the clock and avoid turnover prone plays. If we were behind a score or two, our play calling would have been much different.

Actually, 8 eligible teams. App St., GS and Idaho are ineligible.

Technically App St & GS can be eligible if there aren't enough teams that reach 6-6 but the likelihood is very slim. Idaho is the only one that has a 0% chance of making a bowl.

To be fair. Troy aint making a bowl either. They are only 3 losses away from not being eligible.

Again, getting way ahead of ourselves here....BUT...The only way I see that GS gets to a bowl is if we win the conference outright, and of course apply for and receive a waiver.

Not that simple. The NCAA has to have a need for more bowl teams.
Besides when GS loses Thursday it will be a moot point.

What part of the rules/regulations for Bowl eligibility do you not grasp?

Oh, give them a bit. If You'll recall, UTSA fans were convinced they were going to get a waiver last year too...
