Just because we have allegedly hired Herman, doesn't mean O'Korn is going to be starting. Ward actually showed improvement as the season went along. Do not be surprised is Ward is starting next year. Personally for college, I think dual threat is the way to go.

As that top picture shows, O'korn had no problem tucking the ball and improvising when this situation called for it.
I just think that most of his struggles this year were brought on by being coached by Travis Bush.
His ability to make all the throws may be a prerequisite for Tom Herman/Major Applewhite's offense. We'll see.

We will be stacked at QB next season with the addition of Ben Hicks. With our new HC, new OC and new QB coach, I'll leave it to them to decide from the plethora in the cupboard.

New coach is likely hitting the recruiting road to find a QB. Someone that will be "his QB" vs the old stable of QB from the old coach.

It'll be interesting. He's already said his commitment is solid despite the coaching change, and he's following Herman on twitter. With Major entering the picture, I'm not sure why he'd switch now.

When you have arguably the #2 QB in the country coming in, you don't snub that because he's not "yours"

I still think that JOK is a better QB, that said Ward is a better athlete and improviser who was able to survive TB's incompetent play calling and lack of coaching

I hope there is a real open competition in spring ball/fall practice and whomever gives us the best chance to win should be named the starter.
I do think some real coaching and a QB coach can get O'Korn back on track though.

Considering that Ward performed better without "real" coaching, you would have to think "real" coaching would benefit him more than O'Korn.

Because of their skill set. Running is not something that you get taught really, it's much more intuitive. While passing and reading defenses and the field takes practice and a lot more knowledge. It makes sense Ward can be successful without much help.

Ben Hicks. Kid was ranked #2 QB in the Elite 11 QB competition after being overlooked from the beginning because he was already committed to UH. He would have likely been ranked #1 if he were going to UT, Alabama, etc.

Congrats on your new hire. I saw that your heralded QB recruit decommitted. Any realistic targets that you're looking at?

Got it. I like Ben a lot but he's nowhere near the #2 QB in this class. So I was wondering if perhaps you had gotten someone else.
I don't go by Elite 11 rankings much. In Jameis Winston's year, he was tied for first in Elite 11. The QB he was tied with? Neal Burcham. Elite 11 is wildly inconsistent.
Ben Hicks is a solid 4 star QB and will be a great player at UH. But let's not put undue expectations on him.

Arguably was the key word there because the point was simply that we have a REALLY good QB coming in. I highly doubt Herman would snub this kid cause he wasn't recruited by him. Case in point(pun intended), Keenum was a Briles recruit but Sumlin and him made a great team.
No one is pressuring the kid, lol I doubt he reads these boards anyway.

So are you saying O'Korn is smarter then Ward? If Ward was just scrambling at the end of the season like he was when he first starting playing QB, I may agree with you. But against Cincinnati, he showed a better ability to read defenses then O'Korn showed this year or last.
