RE: Time to try to jump ship
I caught this thing from some Bronco talk, about how our stadium was "rated" the highest in the MAC (atmosphere, size, music, neighborhood -- stuff like that). So I went perusing around thru them, and looked at NIU's as well:

http://www.stadiumjourney.com/stadiums/h...adium-s419

It says your capacity is just over 30k! Is this true? Could have sworn someone on here saying it only tops out at around 25k, which sounded about right before... dunno.

Ours is set at just over 30k too, but that doesn't include the grass, as we've had 36k before in those big games (when we were good). So I'm assuming your Seating capacity is 30k? That true?

Fire Marshal says its under 24k since some time after week 1 in 2007...we were able to pack in up to 31k when they were not looking.

No. It was as high as 28K in the current configuration. 31K was with the north and south bleachers.

In addition to the points you've made, the MWC has more teams that casual fans would make the trip to DeKalb to see the Huskies play.

AFA, Boise State, SD ST, UT ST, Fresno State, Nevada, Hawaii, Colorado State are more attractive than Navy, UCF, Cincy, SMU, Memphis, Houston, UConn, Temple, USF

You serious, Clark?! The MWC would do nothing for us recruiting wise. We literally have 0 recruits from the states represented in the MWC. Travel would be a nightmare. Plus the AAC is WAY more attractive than the MWC. Like, by a freaking mile.

1) More available talent in the West than the Midwest. Few teams from outside the 13 state western region recruit there except Notre Dame , Wisconsin,& Nebraska. There are only 26 D1 teams in the western 13 states. Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois alone have 20. MWC teams don't have ACC, SEC, AAC or many B12 or B10 programs poaching their recruiting turf. MAC teams get the talent that the SEC, ACC, & B10 have passed on.

2) If NIU joins the MWC it will be easier to get the next level of talent below the P5 programs that is in the Midwest. If your a Michigan, Ohio Indiana Wisconsin or Minnesota recruit; where would you rather be playing road games: Muncie, kent, Toledo, Bowling Green or Ypsilanit vs San Diego, Las Vegas, Colorado, San Jose.

RE: Time to try to jump ship
Just look at how Temple's attendance exploded once they left the MAC and joined the AAC-

24,288- Last 2 years in the MAC
24,527- First 2 years in the AAC

Or when Marshall left the MAC and joined CUSA-

26,885- Last 2 years in the MAC
26,271- First 2 years in CUSA

You can't rely on visiting teams to magically fix the level of support of a program's fan base.

You are correct sir!

Does anyone have a picture of the bleachers in the South endzone? I thought I remember them in 99 but not in 00.

Lets just get a real skybox with indoor club seats and have the largest MAC stadium first.

1. I think our recruiting scheme is perfect as it is. The beef from the Midwest and the speed from the south. I understand that there are less schools out west to compete with recruiting, but I don't see many schools out west competing for a national championship other than Oregon (and they can recruit anyone with Nike backing them). There are only 5 teams in the top 25 right now from the west. The rest are all from the south or midwest.

2. No, I'd rather play in Tampa, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Memphis, Cincinatti, New Orleans, etc. where football is king. Although, Vegas would be fun every now and then...I'll give you that.

I cracked a smile at this. I think Kevin occasionally reads the board.

http://m.nbcsports.com/content/vanderbil...9-and-2022

Vanderbilt and NIU announce home-and-home for 2019 and 2022
Kevin McGuire
"As for Vanderbilt’s SEC non-scheduling requirement, the games with NIU will not satisfy the requirement to schedule a power conference opponent (unless NIU joins the Big 12, hypothetically speaking of course)."

Yup. very few of the teams from either of those conferences would help with our home attendance.

Well, I wasn't referring to the whole "How big can it get?". Was talking about official seating capacity. WMU's is 30k ... I always thought NIU's was around 25k... where WMU can bump it up to 35k when it's a big game in winning seasons (which they had), while also assuming NIU can bump it up to 30k in the same scenario -- but point being, the official capacity only 24-25k.

If NIU does have official capacity of 30k, and can bump it up over 30k -- and pack the seats in -- they could make a case for going AAC, if they dominate the MAC the next two years with spilling over the official capacity of 30k average attendance each game. Of course, expanding the stadium (and marketing) would be the best bet. Hitting high mid-high 20's won't do it, IMO.

Quote:"As for Vanderbilt’s SEC non-scheduling requirement, the games with NIU will not satisfy the requirement to schedule a power conference opponent (unless NIU joins the Big 12, hypothetically speaking of course)."

Well, in 5-8 years, things can change. In 2022, if NIU plays their cards right, and the P5/G5 split happens around that time for P5 conferences wanting to get to 16, I could see NIU being picked up by then. But that will Also require NIU spending cash in the meantime to woo fans, scouts, etc. in both football & basketball. I think the B12 knows NIU would be a just-fine candidate to join the conference, being a top-of-the-lower-tier of the conference if/when they expand to 12+. Again, need more than a good record in the mid-majors to join. Good record in the mid-majors will just put you in the better G5 conference as a stepping stone. Actually moving to P5 requires something outside a football record -- fans.
