No we couldn't have.

Adversity occurs in every game. There are penalties. The other team completes a pass and makes a play. Heaven forbid we punt twice.

Marshall did what it needed to do.

Brandon Byrd looks like he could be a great RB. Keeps his eyes upfield, waits for his blockers to open a hole, then hits it and takes off.

Glad to see Brandon Byrd get his first! He's from about 3 miles from where I live and terrorized our local high school when he played at East Bay.

It doesn't matter if you are 1st or 5th team, you can't make mental errors like that. Play hard but play smart at the same time.

We could have scored 60. Thats a fact. Doc wants to cruise in these games when he gets a lead.

I would not want to be one of our opponents. This team is the best i have ever seen at Marshall. That includes 1999.

Another easy win with our backups getting quality time. I love that we are also building for the future.

I don't see it as building for the future. Holcombe wont even start next season if Litton comes. Us not pouring it on like we could and putting up video game numbers may lead to a one loss ECU getting an access bowl over us. I would say an access bowl in year one and a top 10 ranking would build for the future better than a bunch of back ups playing for an extra 8 minutes in the 4th.

Just my opinion on it. Its time to win now and show this teams ootential. They would be averaging 60 pts a game if we tried to do so. Also our defense would probably have given up 9 or less a game if we played our starters on d late. We have given up 28 pts on the season, our of 65 in garbage time with backups in.

It's easy when your opponent has 4 turnovers that 2 are turned into scores and the opponent doesn't show up.

BTY, I was at that game and after looking at the Hurds overall body of work: Dumb penalties are going to cost them big time this season!

I am guessing the Southern Miss game will be the game where that happens.

After that beating, a simple "Good game Herd" would've done.....

RE: Marshall vs. Akron
24,

Respectfully disagree. if you are talking about the Access Bowl level, then they are not going to respect keeping the 1's in just to run up a score. Take your 6 possession lead at the end of three quarters, empty the bench. If you want to put up 60, then your 2's and 3's need to do it.

Winning by 31 or 51 really doesn't matter in the long run. Keeping the starters in simply to run up a score would look worse in the long run.

I could have said that(and wanted to), but not after that statement.

I _think_ (not sure) Georgia had their starters in for most of their 66-0 runaway over Troy.

I saw Wisconsin had a blow out and they got 664 RUSHING yards (but I don't call that running up the score)

I don't hear people complaining about those two teams running up the scores.

I didn't hear anyone whining about Alabama and their last TD last week against USM.. One of my co-workers is an Alabumble fan and he goes "what can you expect, we're trying a 2 QB system".

I honestly don't think the committee will pay attention if it's done by 1st or 2nd or 3rd stringers.

Exactly. Margin of victory matters. We could have won the last 3, 56-7, 58-7, and 66-3 if we played our starters throughout. Thats much better for voters and the committee.... this chivalrous idea of taking it easy on opponents does us no good. The only counter argument to that is it gives back ups experience. And i agree but i think 8 minutes can do that. We play conservative in the mid 3rd.

And to Akron fans, the turnovers dont matter. This is why i wanted to git stomp you by 50. Get it through your head that Marshall is better than penn state.

Marshall>Penn State is debatable. However Marshall has played the following so far:

-Rhode Island
-Miami
-Ohio
-Akron

Not exactly the murders row of teams

Run it up all you want but you DONT have the luxury of being P5 to use as a cover!

C-USA will not help you this year(and I cannot believe that I am agreeing with AAC fanboys on that statement).

Marshall is a good team, but don't be cocky about it 05-nono

Dude we had you beat in 1 quarter as bad as Penn St beat you in a 4 quarters!!!!!

Also, you were playing most of our 2's and 3's for about a quarter and a half! I would have hated to have seen what the score would have been if we kept our foot on the gas pedal!
