Public School cannot endorse a religion by praying with their players. Why? Because our country gives freedom of religion. As much as you guys hate to admit it, freedom of religion also means freedom from religion. Think about it, if I gathered my kids to bow to Allah, before a game, how would you feel?

As long as it didn't involve blowing the stadium up, and the other students could pray as they wanted to, or just ignore it if they wanted to, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I agree these sorts of regulations are definitely a grey area, and there's probably nothing unbecoming with what occurred in the example, but that rule was put in place to prevent any question of whether or not the coach is proselytizing to his players.

Freedom of Religion puts the government in a weird spot, because it requires the government to endorse every religion in the exact same manner. Either that means the government must prevent appearing to endorse any religion at all, or they must allow the same level of endorsement for all religions.
