Peterson's erroneous assumption
He always seemed to view the program in a white-collar, rich folks vein. He never seemed willing to make the Trojans the working man's team. But it always seemed to me that we had the best atmospheres when the bleacher crowd was going.

I liked the atmosphere at the old barton coliseum. The arena was crappy, but everyone had a good time.

No doubt. Remember all our kids (Mine, PTJR's, Yncopirt's) used to run around the arena and have a great time. That kid-friendly "fun" atmosphere is missing. Hope some the new ideas include making it more fun for kids and families.

A lot arenas have family areas where family's can take their kids to run around and play. With bouncy houses and stuff like that. I think it's a good idea. Combine that with a family pack and you have a marketable product to sell to families.

Any seats that are not sold are not bringing in ANY revenue. Better a little revenue than none at all. And that doesn't count the $4 popcorn.

I sent Bob Denman some more ideas about promotions. Most were aimed at increasing the attendance of kids and families. We have a lot of afternoon games to start the season, so attracting kids/families should be a focus for those games. I believe all ideas will be discussed and, at least, considered. Having a kid friendly area, in the arena, might be something they should consider.

That all sounds good of having a kid friendly area, but where are you going to put that in the arena?

There are some large concourse areas in the corners. Where there's a will there's a way. Not saying this is a necessity for our program- It's just something we might want to consider like a lot of other ideas to make the arena more appealing to fans.

I don't know about that. I want young people involved in the program, but you get a bunch of kids in one of the corners playing and having fun(yelling children make a lot of noise), I don't know how the adults, especially older ones are going to like that. That may turn off the older(like me)fans. If they want to do something like that in the Fisher gym, and hire a baby sitter to watch over them, that might be alright, but I don't know if I want a bunch of little girls running around in the concourse. The baby sitter job might be a good one for the assistant/associate AD's, since they got a bunch of them.

I was actually thinking that a baby-sitting area wouldn't be a bad idea. Staff if with students from the developmental psychology department or something like that.
