Sorry to hear that about your mom. Is the situation getting better?

Thank you! Not exactly....they found something on her lungs that looks suspicious. But can't do this test until she is on her feet. Now she has a fractured pelvis. So it may be weeks before we know for sure.

Stay strong!

Trying, my sister is usually the strong one, but she has completely come unglued on this one. So I wait for my meltdowns until I get home in the evenings. When we took her to the ER after a fall, they said she has a fractured pelvis. She is a diabetic and they gave her 5 days of prednisone. In 5 days her sugar shot up to 512. They could have killed her. No one in my family has any medical background, but I learned to never ever give a diabetic prednisone.

They will be extra extra careful mixing prescription drugs they give older family members now that they really know other family is around and caring. Medical people are so overworked. That has been my experience. Hang in there.

We moved her to rehab last night and the staff there thinks I am crazy. I question everything. Once I told them what happened, I think they get it. And talking to some of my friends who are in the medical field, all say it's one of the first things they teach them....doctor101. One more day and we could have lost her. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes. We need all the help we can get right now. They found nodules on her lungs that look suspicious, so please keep the prayers and positive energy coming. I am terrified right now.

Prayers sent for you and your family! It is good that she is in rehab, I am an RN if you have any questions. That is not my expertise, but I would love to try and help you with medical stuff. My family calls me all the time for medical clarifications.

It's not just an old saying, but you really do have to watch out for mis-diagnosis and mis-prescriptions.

My mom had esophagoal varices once, and the ER doc was just about ready to give her cumodin, a blood thinner, which would have caused her to bleed out and die. The varices were listed in her chart, but the doc overlooked it. His face turned ashen when I reminded him of the varices.

Good luck to you.

Tanya, I wish the best for your mother. My mom is a diabetic as well and it does make the meds a bit interesting…

All the best to your fam. GTG!

Wow....it's really scary. I know doctors are humans and make mistakes just like the rest of us. But what choice do we have but to trust the doctors? I am so glad you caught the mistake and your mom is ok. I would really love to go back to that ER and find this doctor just so I can let him know how badly he screwed up and almost killed my mother. If I were him, I think I would want to know. Thoughts?

Yes, everyone's human and makes mistakes. It doesn't mean the doc is an idiot. As a professional he/she should at least be open to criticism.

The hospital should definitely know about it. I wouldn't hesitate to write a letter to the administration. I did it with my mother.

Hope everything's ok.
