Most memorable debuts in Cincinnati sports
Because of Gunner Kiel's 6 TD performance Lance has compiled a list of the most memorable Cincinnati Sports Debuts. Noticeably absent are any UC games.

The two that came to my mind were:

1. Bob Huggins debut- Opening the shoe, walkon from the football team, Steve Sanders hitting the game winner at the buzzer against Nationally Ranked Minnesota.

2. Dontonio Wingfield's debut, where he torched Butler. That was my first UC basketball season ticket year with my dad. Wingfield was otherworldly.

Anyone have any others to add?

Wingfield had 30 points and 12 rebounds in that game including several three pointers which really shocked the crowd.

Not nearly as impressive but I believe Yancy Gates had a double/double in his first game as a Bearcat.

Two biggest Bearcat Basketball what ifs of my lifetime:

1. What if Kenyon Martin hadn't broken his leg? (Obviously the biggest and most brutal)

2. What if Wingfield had stayed 1 or 2 more years? Seriously, how fun would it have been to watch Wingfield and Fortson just drive opposing teams crazy? Could Wingfield have gotten his life together and become an all NBA caliber player (because that was his talent level)? At least we got to watch the Kenyon Martin team at its peak, we missed out on this one.

This one looked better in hind sight: Sean Kilpatrick scoring 21 points in 24 minutes in his first college game!!

Yes, this and Gunner Kiel are the 2 big UC football debuts in my opinion.

I would sort of put George Winn against Pitt in this group. Dude opened up his starting career at runningback and UC's 2012 football season with a 58-yard touchdown run in front of an awesome Nippert crowd. That one sticks out to me.

What about Gino Guidugli's debut in 2001? True freshman, UC's second game of the year after Adam Hoover played poorly in game 1 vs Purdue. 31/41, 311 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT in a huge 24-21 win @ Army. He wowed us immediately.

It wasn't a home game and it wasn't televised... thus it falls down the list, IMO.

BK's game was one of the last bowl games that year (was played in January).

The Wingfield game vs Butler was my first game too!

Wish he would have stayed...can you imagine him as a jr on the Elite 8 team with Fortson!? Wingfield was a BIG game player, he wanted the ball in clutch and delivered...the Umass game at the Shoe that year is a great example of that. He hit a couple of three's late in that one and it was a close game...roof came off the place and it was the loudest i've ever heard it. My ears were ringing after the game.

I went to many games before that, but that was the first year my dad bought season tickets. My mom would drive me from loveland to kenwood mall and my dad (who worked at UC at the time) would come pick me up and we'd go back to Clifton for the games.

Even though it was never hyped, flew under the radar - Nick Davila's first and only start at QB for UC. Too bad we never got to see more of him.

1. National Championship.
2. Yes.

Disagree. It was a debut and was hugely exciting and impressive. High up on the list in my book.

I guess it really wasn't a debut because he had played a few snaps prior but in 2008 when Dustin Grutza went down and Tony Pike had to start the Miami game many people thought the season was about to take an ugly turn. It didn't. Pike was outstanding.

Brian Kelly had gold dust on him while at UC...everything he did just worked.

I was excited when Gino got the starting nod. I just didn't think it was as big as several others. Maybe part of that was due to Minter.
