Interesting point. But if so, that's odd timing of that statement for a guy whose primary job is public relations.

Yes, interesting statement that actually meant Missouri will no longer schedule non-P5 schools on the road after they schedule some more non-P5 schools on the road.

Mizzou said "We will eventually phase out these games from our schedule"

Its the media and message board types that are saying "Mizzou said they will never play a G5 on the road again"

Mizzou's AD has a very expansive definition of "eventually". Like a three-pack-a-day guy who says he will "eventually" stop smoking. 03-lmfao

Only one of Mizzou's scheduled non-conference road games from now through 2020 is against a P5 team. For all the rest, they're going on the road to play a G5 team. (The one P5 game is in 2018 at Purdue.)

This year -- already played at Toledo
2015 -- at Arkansas State
2017 -- at UConn
2019 -- at Wyoming
2020 -- at Memphis

BYU, although declared to be "non-P5" by the ACC and SEC, is also able to get regular home-and-home series with the Pac-12 schools. You won't see a 100% lockout of P5 vs. G5 home-and-home series, but the ones that you do see going forward are going to be much more targeted (i.e. with schools that are on the cusp of being in the P5 and/or in an important recruiting area like Florida/Ohio/Texas/California).

I think the public perception of schools that were in power conferences at one time or have played football at top 25 level is different than scheduling road games at schools that are very recent FBS additions or long time smaller conferences programs that have serious attendance issues and poor TV exposure. A power five team that schedules a road games versus Army, Navy, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, ECU, BYU, and Boise State has a good chance to play on a solid national TV platform. At the very least that game is going to be on CBSSN or ESPNU, most likely that game will be on ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC because it allows ESPN to use to one their prime TV slots for an intersection game with a power five team.

I think something else now as well- like was mentioned earlier- the top p5 programs won't have home and home- but it's going to get harder for the middle and lower tier P5 to have home only series with G5 teams- if a G5 team was going to do a buy type game- it would be for some of the stronger programs- not a bad P5 team.

If i were the AD at mizzou, my goal would be

3 pancake games at home
1 good non-conference game

1st choice
Kansas every year in KC

2nd choice
Illinois every year in St Louis

3rd choice
h/a or neutral with any big 12 or big 10 school.

Pretty sure everyone knows this guy was just high on Missouri's recent success.

Like always, they will have years where they will be a average team. Average teams do not have the power to make demands like teams like Alabama or USC. Heck, I'm sure there are schools that would agree to four away games in a row with no return to play USC.

I tend to believe that Missouri realized that right now, its not willing to pay the crazy amount necessary to bring some G5 teams in.

I mean, If I am the AD at UConn, and I know that Missouri is traveling to what I would see as equal or lesser G5 programs than myself in Arkansas State, Wyoming, and Memphis, I'd say home and home or nothing, or request an incredibly high gurantee.

Apparently when he said "eventually" he meant, like, 2025.

As a UConn fan, this is a great get for the football schedule. I'd love if a home-home series with Mizzou basketball was in the works as well since UConn needs to beef up their non-conference schedule with being in the American and not having a chance to play Louisville 3 times a year like last year.

Have seen few ADs that don't say something that they later do the opposite.

I think you are a little misinformed regarding IU football. I lived there. Secondly, lets just see how IU does this year. It is too early for anyone deciding the quality of teams.

Missouri will play whoever they want, whenever they want. The Missouri AD said this to appease the hard-line portion of the Missouri fanbase.

He still has tight-knit professional connections to all sorts of DI programs - including some G5 programs. The G5 programs that are friendly to Missouri knew exactly what he was doing - which is why the status quo will not be threatened.
