I didn't really drink until I was 21 so I never did, but I'm in the vast minority when it comes to that. Hell, I've helped gather friends who had run from the Cops and were hiding one night when a big party I was at got busted. I remember the cops walking into the house and saying "so there are 30 some cars and 6 people here..." It happens. He's a kid. If we find out something worse maybe judge, but if it's simply a matter of running from the cops when he realized he shouldn't have been there...so be it.
I'm sick of this "he's a kid" sh!t. Maybe it's because I get the same crap from my 14 year old, as if it's an excuse. It's not. It's a crutch for stupidity.
Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
Anybody under the age of 25 is dumb. Everybody has made dumb decisions, particularly in their teens and 20's. The inability to move on from transgressions, shows a lack of self awareness and a ******* arrogance on the part of parents. As someone who had parents that simply snapped when things went wrong, people like that are absolutely useless when it comes to growing up. What's in the past is in the past, assigning blame doesn't make it go away. What's done is done. Just exploding and insulting someone isn't going to improve their behavior, it's just going to make you look like a douche.
Having said that, just disappointing when upper-classmen engage in it. WTF is he thinking? I'd prefer it if they were suspending at least 1 game.
Stating that "anyone under 25 is dumb," is categorically incorrect. Make mistakes? Yes. Dumb, no.
Believe it or not, I can understand why a young, black male would run from police (sorry, my intention is NOT to get into a race debate); HOWEVER, given their position, these guys HAVE to know better. PERIOD.
Some people find trouble, others manage never to get into trouble. I'd like to know what UC does for these guys going in to indoctrinate players on personal accountability and forward-thinking situational management.
This is not the kind of stuff that's good on the resume when looking for a job or seeking security clearance.
I just keep thinking about my kid this past weekend and how his excuse was, "I'm only 14." I'm like, where the fk does that come from? I don't expect him to fully understand that his current actions have great consequences nor do I burden him with dark, ominous predictions. But he has been logically and calmly been involved with fairly deep dialogue regarding what he wants out of life and what it takes to get there, and that there's a big difference between an aeronautical engineer and a cook at Waffle House.
The point isn't about my kid; however, this propensity to vomit an easy "I'm just a kid" kind of excuse that seems to permeate society is disturbing and kinda frightening. "Just a kid" really hit a nerve.
Players want to be paid like real employees, treated like real adults? Well this kind of thing gets you fired at some jobs.
