Is the rule specifically just only 1 D2/D3 team? Or is it only 1 non-D1 team?

ECU plays division 3 NC-Wesleyan (as part of a tournament) and Virginia University at Lynchburg which plays in the USCAA which is even lower than a D3 school. Either way leave it up to us to find a loophole whether by the opening tournament game or by playing a team not affiliated with the NCAA.

No one here knows or probably cares because most of them do not have to deal with this crap or abuse it like we do. USF and UCF are the only ones that have even scheduled one the last 2 years and they weren't playing many before anyway.

I think the rule is you can only schedule one which is what we did. The other was assigned to us in a preseason tournament. Whether or not we knew we would be assigned a non d1 opponent in the opening game of the tournament, im not sure

03-lmfao We absolutely knew. We signed up for that tourny in November 2013. They had provided Non D1's to schools in last years field IF they wanted them. Some declined it, and we could have to BTW.

There is a contract or agreement with all that in there when we signed up I'm sure and truth be told we likely did it specifically so we could get around any rules if they do exist.

The rule should be, "Don't do it."

I don't understand why anyone does it when there are so many D1 teams who are only marginally better. If you want a cupcake, there are plenty of stores that sell them.

Question: Is it better to schedule a non-D1 school that is not factored into RPI at all or a "marginally better" D1 school with a 300+ RPI?

Pathetic programs use it to game the RPI (see MWC 2013 and Southern Miss).

I wish the AAC would mandate it, so our administration would be forced to stop scheduling them. i'd rather play on the road against a OVC, MVC team with decent RPI than at home against Mount Olive. Sorry. There are so many schools in north carolina which are D1...

UNC (insert city)
Elon
App st
High Point
Then there is teams from South Carolina and Virginia.

That's a myth when winning percentage is still a major part of the equation you piss away by actually getting easy wins. I can give you plenty of examples documented on BBS where we beat 300 teams and went up in the RPI in late January and February the last 10 years. The only people that might drastically effect are those at the top 20 where the margin of error is far less, and the most I have seen any of them drop is a couple spots after a win over a 300+ team.

It's still a joke we play any of them at all.

There are over 50 D1 teams with in 4 hours and of all levels of us. It's a complete joke when schools out west like New Mexico State have like 2 within the same distance.
