Heinicke missed practice again on Wednesday
Here is Harry's report today about TH missing practice for a second day due to his shoulder. Even refers to a previous shoulder injury during high school which would have kept him out the next week had they not had a bye. Both TH and coach seem to think that this is minor compared to that.

It also says he could have practiced today.

Quote:Wilder said on Tuesday that Heinicke would work out today, but changed his mind when the Monarchs hit the field during a rain shower. Much of the two-hour workout was punctuated by rain.

“Taylor did not practice because of his overly cautious head coach,” Wilder said. “I didn’t want him throwing soaking wet balls with a sore shoulder.

“He could have practiced today.”

This could be used to mask the fact that his arm wasn't 100 percent prior to the EMU hit.

I'm sure he'll play

This is why you shouldn't multitask. I was doing something else and read the above and thought, "When did TH see an emu and why did it hit him?"

Seems like a smart move to let him rest until Friday

Heinicke's arm doesn't need the reps, our receivers hands do. Period. Jeeez. LOL

If it's the hands you are worried about, the receivers can get plenty of reps without TH. Timing is another thing.

If you have ever had a deep bruise into the shoulder, you know just how painful it can be. From personal experience, the pain in just trying to lift your arm up above your head is unbearable, and it can take two weeks plus to have full movement again. At the time, I seriously thought I had dislocated my shoulder. I understand that current thinking is that this injury is not as serious as one he had in high school, but if he plays, I will be surprised if TH is 100%.

Great points.

IMO the timing has been slightly off all season and the receivers are getting more blame than they should. I haven't seen Antonio Vaughan or Zach Pascal with nearly as much run after the catch as compared to last season. Is the ball not arriving as quickly? Has it been Vincent Lowe's fault that he is generally getting blown up on short routes, is it excellent defense, poor playcalling?

I think we have good receivers, just something isn't quite right and it is not the competition. Our first three opponents, Hampton, NC State and EMU are on average worse defensively than our 2013 schedule was defensively. We should have more success in the air.

An 80% TH is better than DW and one game isn't worth burning the redshirt on Bentley. Good call to let him play.

I agree. As long as there is not a risk to TH's health going forward, and he is good to go he should get the start. In a season which holds next to zero chance of ODU going to a bowl Bentley's red shirt is too valuable to burn.

RE: Heinicke missed practice again on Wednesday
The remainder of this season is going to be rough with our without Heinicke. If for some reason he can't play, then I vote to let Washington finish the year to save Bentley's red shirt. Going 3-9 isn't that much worse than 4-8 (or even 5-7). It hurts your pride a little more, but none of them will get you to a bowl game. I take the long view. Take your lumps this year and build for the future.

Well yeah...but, well, we're talking about him missing the rest of the season, and he's not even missing (as of now) the game in 2 days.

FWIW, if Heinicke was injured badly, he'd still be redshirt eligible as of right now--he's played in no more than 3 games and less than 30% of schedule. If that happened, it would be Washington.

This is not a good discussion....it is bad karma to talk about injuries. Anyway...the biggest issue I see with the connection between TH and the receivers is a big thing...We lost Pinkard and Roberts both big in stature and speedy receivers. That was has not been replaced. The speed part has been somewhat replaced but with shorter receivers. When you go against larger Dbacks we are now at a disadvantage.

Anyone have any links to highlights form HU or NCSU?
Gilesfan, ODUR8R?

I would like revisit some film of TH passing.

In the EMU game, the floater into the south end zone and the two floaters in a row out of bounds on the west sidelines; one of which almost went into the crowd (among several others), were certainly not weather related nor the fault of the receivers.

To blame the weather is to ignore history.
For example, those of you who sat through the wind and rain vs Delaware in 2012 saw TH pass 36/45 and 375 yds @ 8.3 per in much harder rain and greater wind than was in place for the EMU game.

The receiver issue and unfamiliarity has to be huge. That might indeed be most of the problem.
However, It might be interesting (just for my own edification) to look at Taylor's throwing and mechanics from HU and NC ST.

We have plenty size at wide receiver and more height than ever. Duhart 6'3",Pascal 6'2",Vaughn 6'2". and Washington 6'3". Cortizone will be the great equalizer for us Saturday.

Fortunately, the RCE DBs are fast but not tall.

I agree. I don't believe there is an issue of receiver size as much as there is one of lack of comfort, and chemistry between TH and his receivers. As long as TH returns to his usual form (not that he has been bad, just off a little) I look for a drastic improvement in ODU's passing game. Pascal is very talented, as is Duhart. I thought England would have been more of a target by now due to being a HS teammate of TH, and I still believe that he will be soon.

he targeted England a lot in the first half of the HU game, but not so much since then.

Good read about both our QB's together on the reality set of 'The Ride' on MTV. Did not know the history.
