Stadium Announcer Motivated fans at UNLV
I'm not sure if I recall this happening ever in Huskie Stadium, but at UNLV their announcer motivated fans to be loud on 3rd downs each time by saying very clearly "Good things happen on 3rd down when you are LOUD!!!" and the fans would get loud & fired up for 3rd downs. It seemed to be much more effective than just having the words "Get Loud" come up on the ribbon boards or on the video board.

It was pretty cool. I'd like to see our fans get fired up more on every 3rd down.

I would also like to see our fans be quiet when we go for it on 4th down or when we're going for a field goal or the point after. Too many are clueless & get loud for our own team at all the wrong times.

Someone tweeted that he tried to get the UNLV fans up and cheering and the NIU fans drowned him out so he had to stop.

They really didn't need to play turn down for what 100 times either.

Northwestern was fun, because they tried to get the crowd stirred up on third down. In the second half, it seemed he converted on third down nearly every time. Was nice to stick it to them.

I'm not a big fan of the guy we use now to work the crowd during games. Up until last year, the position was held by a local FM radio morning show host. He did a great job at both bball and football games IMO. He had a great voice, and wasn't over the top. When it's done right, it can really help fans (especially casual fans) know when it's most important to cheer and help them get into the game.

The guy that does it now was our mascot (Hey Reb) for 4 years and recently graduated. Not that I'm a mascot scout, but he really seemed to do a good job in that capacity. But take the costume and mask off of him, and he just seems like a fanboy out there.

it was pretty awesome when they tried to start some U-N-L-V chant and it quickly turned into N-I-U.

If we're talking details, my only gripe with the stadium experience was that they showed very few replays on their video screen. I think they only showed plays that were positive for UNLV and not "quiestionable" calls...so we never got to see a lot of the penalties or turnovers...I hate when stadiums do that, basically penalize the people that actually came to the game to see it live.

+1

I know the MAC had a rule against showing replays of official reviews 2 years ago. I think it was gotten rid of but I have not noticed any review replays on our jumbotron. More replays on the jumbotron would be great BUT I think how quickly we run plays has a bit to do with the lack of them.

This is the kind of in depth stuff that comes from the hardest of hardcore fans. I salute you!

Hey, I had a pet rock when I was in school! I named him Rocky (cute, huh?). I even slept with him. He was always in my bed. Once when I was making love to a girl, she kept telling me she felt like she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I took it as a compliment.

I have two pet rocks and I keep them in my pants.

You guys really need a new guy to update the down and distance on the scoreboard. Whoever was doing it last week was bad haha.

It was a billion degrees. I wasn't trying to go to the hospital.

I don't know the details, but it seems like the scoreboard is just still trying to get the kinks worked out. It is a totally new display (the old video board was about 1/3 the size, and had technology from the 90's) and I think the operators are still getting the hang of it.

I think the unfamiliarity with the scoreboard might have caused fewer replays, too, as another poster commented.

Captain Obvious here, but I think you guys found out pretty quickly that our facilities aren't exactly SEC- or Cowboys Stadium-quality, and introducing new technology into the mix is just too much to handle, it seems.
