We beat San Jose State, not Fresno St. in the 1987 California Bowl.

Gotta love beat writers and their lack of research and editorial skills.

I have long since determined that journalists (especially sports journalists) don't always have something to say, but they always have to say something. This leads to a lot of dreck being published/broadcast.

RE: Game Week: MSU
Comparisons to the 2012 game are absolutely irrelevant. A very different EMU team played a very different MSU team. It's useless to say we're worse than the 2012 based on this game.

MSU is damn good. They lost to perhaps to best team in the county on the road. They'll be back in the top 5 within a few weeks. I'm not going to ignore the problems we have, we're certainly bad, but our worst loss ever? Let's not be ridiculous. I watched an average NIU slaughter us 71-3 at HOME in 2010 under English.

Thankfully we get a week off. As Sam said, ODU has proven themselves as a notable team in the FBS. Akron hasn't looked as impressive as many predicted in the preseason. We'll see how we look against an average MAC team.

I think we can expect to see Bolden in the starting role under center for the foreseeable future.

We barely beat a very so-so Morgan State team which barely beat a very poor Howard team today. Yeah, Morgan State was our first game under Coach Creighton but Morgan State is a very so-so FCS team, not an average FBS or MAC team. Yes, ODU is a pretty "decent" team but they beat an 0-3 Rice team by 3 points (45-42), so the jury is still out on how good ODU is.

I appreciate you trying to make that pig look better by putting lipstick on it but the fact of the matter is that this EMU team is 1-3 by virtue of the fact that it eeked out a win against Morgan State. This team has not shown any sign of improvement and, in fact, has shown that it is in disarray rather than being on the path to stability.

This team will not win another game this year, just some more serious ass kickings. This is the worst EMU team I've ever seen. Period.

RE: Game Week: MSU
THE SEASON TO DATE HAS BEEN A DISASTER

WHO WILL BE THE QB OF THE FUTURE? APPARENTLY HE IS NOT YET ON THE ROSTER - A NEW RECRUIT AT QB CAN COME IN AND START IMMEDIATELY

CONCERNED ALSO ABOUT THIS YEARS RECRUITING. ALTHOUGH WE HAVE A NUMBER OF VERBAL COMMITTMENTS TO DATE, LOOK AT THE COMPETITION FOR THESE PLAYERS, NOT TOO MANY OFFERS OTHER THAN EMU - WHAT DOES THAT SAY?

P.S. I'M SURE CREIGHTON AND STAFF DIDN'T REALIZE HOW DIFFICULT IT WOULD BE TO TURN THIS PROGRAM AROUND, IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR THE STAFF TO DATE

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO CREEL? IS HE HURT, NOT PLAYING ETC, I FOR ONE THOUGHT HE WOULD BE A GOOD RECEIVER IN OUR OFFENSE, HE WAS LAST YEAR.

I WOULD BET ENGLISH IS GETTING A FEW CHUCKLES OVER THIS YEARS TEAM PERFORMANCE TO DATE.

We might win one or two more. There are some real weak sisters in the MAC this year.

There will be some games neither team should win but there has to be a winner.

Here are the Sagarins:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/sagarin/

We will get a team equal or worse than ODU at home and should beat them... We have chances vs. UB, UMass, CMU, BSU.

RE: Game Week: MSU
Bell plays too much out of control at QB for my tastes. As the game went on I thought Bolden got better, he took a near Jayru Campbell bodyslam in the first quarter and Bulloughs gave him a late hit during the targeting penalty. That deep route to Allen looks good for potential. We've been saying its our WRs but both at the Old Dominion and MSU we had WRs wide open and our QBs were not able to hit him. I thought in the late third and early fourth the team started to jell on both sides of the ball. I hope Wylie and Hurcombe and Roback will recover by conference play. Might need to add another QB to our already existing verbal.

No, I saw he has been on the sideline not in pads. In a preseason interview he mentioned one of his goals was to get healthy. I'm not sure what his status is, has anyone heard? Also if Spearman is not ready to go soon he would be best off with a redshirt season.

RE: Game Week: MSU
Dear Friends,
I can't believe all the doom and gloom from this site. Yes we played poorly for the first three quarters roughly, but as others have mentioned dropped passes, fumbles, overthrown passes, all of those things can be corrected. You have to admit that in some key situations if those mistakes had not been made, Michigan State would not have gotten the ball back or might not have even scored in some of those situations.
If any of you recorded the game, watch for all the holding that State's tackles and ends were doing to our defensive ends or linebackers when they ran wide in the first quarter. You can't get to the ball carrier if someone is holding you. The offense certainly needs to pull more of its own weight. One cannot expect the defense to play forty minutes of a game and be able to have the energy to continuly stop an offense like Michigan State's.
We threw the ball downfield, we made some good defensive plays, we never gave up. Those are positives, and we are taking baby steps, but this is a team that is going to beat some others in our league.

I agree, the offense has put the defense in some horrible situations the last three weeks with 3 and outs and turnovers. Despite the points on the scoreboard, I think the D line and LB's didn't play horribly against MSU. I actually like our front 7 and think they have lot of potential. Despite our offensive line expectantly being the backbone of the team I think it our Defensive front 7 (or punters). If we could get our DB's on the same page we could have a decent defense. BTW Linser is our only Senior in this group.

Hey Ken, we had ZERO first downs against their starters.
MSU played 3 QB'S in the first QTR- 5 total, the last one #22.

We never stopped their offensive starters once. They could have scored 100.

Have a good day.

RE: Game Week: MSU
Dear Bob Wickersham,
I realize we have to complete the plays (like completing passes), and I know that is part of the game. However if we complete those passes we get first downs. That in its self doesn't mean we will march down the field, but it keeps the ball out of the hands of their offense.
If our quarterback would have been able to connect on two of the long throws that were overthrown, those may have been touchdowns. Could have, should have, I know, but you have to look at what is developing. Those may be connections in future games. I am not giving up on this team. You obviously have.

From the Echo hopefully a bye week will bring us up to 100%:

Redshirt sophomore center Jake Hurcombe left the game because a knee injury, his status was not immediately known after the game.

Junior receiver Dustin Creel also missed the game with a knee injury, as did redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Andrew Wylie.

Sophomore quarterback Brogan Roback (undisclosed injury) and redshirt senior offensive lineman Lincoln Hansen (undisclosed) also missed the game.

Saturday’s game was Hansen’s first missed game in his 38-game EMU ca

Impressive that Hansen has been able to keep himself in such great health over the past four years.

I wouldn't hold my breath to see Spearman, he suffered a broken leg in the preseason. We won't see him until November, if we see him at all.

I think Spearman should skip this season and apply for a medical redshirt.

If you look at it we had two starting offensive linemen out for the MSU game and our best WR.

No mentions of Collins, Derric Williams and or Pulliam as being injured in the Echo article. Wonder if they are suspended?
