Anyone have a OLDER LCD tv? I'm having a interesting issue with mine
I got a '06 Samsung. The strange issue I am getting within the last 3 months or so is some weird burn in issues of which I have never had prior to this time frame. For instance, after watching a say 2.35:1 ratio movie the parts hidden behind the black bars show "burn in" or say if I watch an extended session of NetFlix with older 4:3 tv shows I get some "burn in" showing on the sides. I mean the tv is not running on brighter settings than I have had it set to. And after watching 1.85:1 the dark areas disappear after a while...almost like that refreshes them out.

You may have a more informed response by posting your question on http://www.avsforum.com/. I would suggest Googling your Samsung model number, too. There may be some others that are experiencing the same and may have a solution.

Finally- you are in luck. While I wouldn't wish to spend your money, Amazon is offering 24 months no interest on their televisions. This summer, I picked up a 50 inch Samsung UE5300 television for $600 so I can watch television in the garage. This is not a "top of the line" television but for the price and a few picture adjustments, it is awesome.

For those that are considering new televisions and do not have a lot of extra scratch, there are some great prices on 32 inch HD televisions. K-Mart had an RCA for $149 a week or so ago. Tiger Direct had a refurbished model for $139. I suspect we will see a $99 unit for Black Friday.

Even the big screen 60 inch television prices are falling. Many can be found for $700 or so. These may be good units that CNET reviewed highly, too.

Good luck in finding your solution.

Sounds like it might just be wearing out.

I found this article

Panasonic plasma's are the best. I don't know what model you have but click through and see what a settings suggestion is for the model listed. It takes a great television and makes them so much better. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/167-plasma...hread.html

Concerning the Samsung LCD- visiting avsforum with your model number may give you some insights. Searching Youtube with your model number may also give you some troubleshooting advice.

I wouldn't spend too much time looking for answers. With the prices of televisions dropping so quickly, if the answer isn't an adjustment, you may be better off picking up a new television.

WOW, that Onkyo/Pioneer thread is scary. Never been a big Pioneer home or car guy even though I respected the gear and currently do own a Pioneer head unit in my car( store I go to had basically quit on Alpine). Pioneer Elite tv's of the projection or Plasma variety were always top notch.

***********

FWIW, there probably isn't a solution to my tv other than probably putting a new bulb in it but at the current pricing of tvs and the cost of repair it would not be worth it but the sad part with that reasoning is my tv is 720p, 3 HDMI ports, 2 Component Video ports, S Video, VGA input.... so many inputs and what not and most tv's worth a damn in the 32" size lack a jack panel like that.

Pioneer quit making televisions a number of years ago because they could not make enough money to justify the research. The Elite Kuro plasma was the best reviewed television and the standard for a number of years because of their deep blacks.

Many of the engineers moved from Pioneer to Panasonic and developed Panasonic's plasmas. Panasonic quit making plasmas last year of for the same reason. Panasonic finally surpassed the Pioneer Elite Kuro for picture quality and deep blacks. http://www.cnet.com/news/tv-shoppers-now...ic-plasma/

Samsung and LG still make plasma televisions. Who knows how long.

You are correct about the number of HDMI ports, RCA ports, etc... Many televisions do not supply them.

I finally stopped fighting and bought a modern receiver to handle everything. I picked up a refurbished Marantz NR1403 for $269.99. I have plenty of HDMI ports, the set up is easy, and the sound is incredible. Ultimately, everything goes through the receiver and I run one HDMI cable to the television. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-s...ver/1.html

When you state that you think you need a new bulb for the television- Do you have a DLP television and not a LCD television?

DLP televisions are great but can have a number of parts that need replacing.

A bulb may be $100. This is an easy repair that you can do your self. Really. It is just a few screws.

If it is a color wheel or computer chip, the work is still easy to do but requires a little more patience to complete. The challenge is that you can buy a brand new modern television for the price of replacing all three parts.

The technology will be discontinued in 2015.

Normal LCD not a LCD projection.

So what? There isn't a LCD or LED that can compete with a Panasonic Plasma.

It really sucks about Plasma getting quit on. Any objective tv shopper will see a HUGE difference in the performance of Plaz over LCD and LED. That is one reason I got a plasma. Nearly all NICE branded LEDs and LCDs I had seen in the 50" screen size really struggled to keep up with motion in action movies and sports.... almost forcing the picture to look blurry... and I am talking about BR native discs not some older movie on a upres ... even on HD broadcast material... Neither hold a black as good as Plasma as well. Honestly, if the manufacturers hadn't gotten out of sub 37" plasma I would have gotten a smaller one.

Like any technology, it becomes harder to maintain when it becomes obsolete.
