Danny DeKeyser signs two year $4.375 million contract
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have locked up a player they hope will be a cornerstone of their defense for many years, signing Danny DeKeyser today to a two-year contract at a salary-cap hit of $2.187 million.

DeKeyser, 24, is coming off a strong rookie season, appearing in 65 games, with four goals, 23 points and a plus-10 rating. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound mobile, puck-moving defender was a restricted free agent.

After negotiating on and off for a few months, the sides reached a deal just days before the start of training camp (players report to Traverse City on Wednesday and take the ice on Friday).

DeKeyser, who earned a base salary of $950,000 last season, will make $2.125 million this season and $2.25 million in 2015-16. He will be a restricted free agent when the deal expires.

good for him and good for the program. The more successful pro players we have the easier it will be to sell the program to recruits.

Not to mention an alumni with deep pockets and he may be inclined to donate to the program??
