You most likely can't just roll out there and try to point the up/down/left/right/side to side of the dish all by yourself.
Yes you can if you know the angles and have a method to gage them correctly. HD is a different subject.

Help with setting up a TV on Tiger Lane
The elevation on my dish is set already. I just point it directly South, then move it about 10 degrees to the west. That is usually pretty close. To aim it perfectly, do the following:
On the direct TV remote, press Menu, Parental favs & setup, system setup, satellite, view signal strength, and signal meters. This will show a live bar graph of signal strength. Move the dish to show at least 90 % and you are aimed. Exit out of setup and you are done.
It's so simple even an Old Mess grad could do it.

If you were rich like MissJ, you could buy one of those satellites that automatically finds the right direction/angle/azimuth for you, no matter where you put it.
