Over the last year since I started reading this board I've noticed that a lot of people here wouldn't mind secession in some form. Got me thinking on this article that I read a few years back and your thoughts on it.

As if Things Weren't Bad Enough, Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.

When I first read it I thought it was one of the more ridiculous things I've ever read. Now I'm not so sure.

Now I think, that the dollar will eventually go into the toilet one of these days. Hopefully this is decades away, but wouldn't surprise me if it happens in the next 10-15 years. When it does, the only solution to it might be a split.

Ignore the "In control of" statements. The southern states will not be under Mexico's influence, same thing with the mid-western states being under Canada's control. I do think that both Alaska and Hawaii are screwed however.

Not so much Alaska I don't think. However, this is becoming more and more evident that it wouldn't be a surprise if it happened.

I think the influx of invaders looking for Reconquista will eventually take its toll. Other splits will be likely.

But the future is hard to predict, and I don't think all the details given will match what we see.

The only thing that makes no sense are some of his lines and how he decides that each area will fall under the influence of some other outside power. That's really the part where he loses me. Why would a vastly more developed, and now independent, area of the county fall under the influence of a country like Mexico?

A similar situation comes up with the Atlantic group and the Californian group... why would they fall under the influence of anybody?

If such a disintegration were to happen it would probably be in the form of a much slimmer political union. The US economy is so integrated and dependent on one another it would be impossible to dissolve all bonds. A sort of Confederation of these groups, with a few different boundaries, would be a lot morel likely.

I find it particularly interesting that this subject has become popular since the election of our first Black President.

What would Lincoln do?

It has nothing to do with the fact Obama is black. It has to do with politicians of his ilk that more and more want to take ever increasing amounts from the producers and give it to the non-producers in exchange for votes.

The policies of the group he heads wants to place larger and larger numbers of people on the dole and beholden to the political ruling class.

The color of his skin has nothing to do with the above............................

I do agree that there is simply no way that Mexico would have any sort of control over the southern states. The only advantage Mexico would have would be in population, otherwise the new confederacy would be far more powerful in every other aspect. Same thing with the other "countries", whatever is leftover will still be far to powerful for any other country to control.
Besides, if the split is done amicably, each country would be each other's greatest ally. Mess with one, you mess with all of them.

All I know is that when the ish hits the fan I'm moving to The New Republic of Texas if they don't absorb TN. - no way in hell this solidly red state would ever allow the European Union of Metrosexual Pusses to take us over - because no real Texan would ever allow Mexico to take over.

i would go for that in a heartbeat. I always admired Canadians and have more in common with them than southerners. I hope it's a peaceful break up. It's not you it's me kind of thing. I would like to keep the Atlantic states though.

It has nothing to do with race. People kinda were getting worried under W, but no one thought he would straight violate your rights using the government apparatus. Under Obama, we have a President that doesn't care about the Constitution, your individual rights, or the rule of law. He likes to legislate when Congress cannot agree, even though he has NO Constitutional authority to do so. Moreover, he using the government to intimidate private citizens and members of the other coequal branches of government. He's starting to sound a lot like the tyrant this country declared independence from to start with.
