RE: Battle for the Victory Bell news and notes
I'm good with playing the game simply because at this pace they are going to pull ahead in the all-time series in fairly short order.

That said, I hate when they have two away games against MAC schools in the same season. It seems this has happened a couple of times over the last several years.

And 9/10, the only loss being in Dantonio's 2nd season rebuilding year.

Here's an interesting stat about the series: since 1986 Miami has only beaten the Bearcats on nine occasions (90,91,92,95,98, 02,03 and 05).

Up through the 1950s the series was fairly even with a slight lead towards Miami. In the 60s and 70s Miami beat UC 16 out of 20 times to take a commanding lead in the series.

Here is the breakdown by decade

Pre-1900: Tied 5-5-1
1900-1909: UC led 4-1-1
1910-1919: Miami led 2-6-2
1920-1929: Miami led 2-7-1
1930-1939: UC led 5-4-1
1940-1949: Tied 5-5
1950-1959: Tied 5-5
1960-1969: Miami 16-2
1970-1979: Miami 16-2
1980-1989: UC led 6-4
1990-1999: Miami led 4-5-1
2000-2009: UC led 6-4
2010-: UC leads 4-0

It is the only away game every other year that is close. UC fans can make it a semi home game. Also glad we have Purdue, IU etc., fans can easily drive to those games. No conference away games are withing driving distance.

Have to agree completely here. When UC was cruising along in the Big East, the rivalry in its current home and home mode was questionable. UC fans had manageable road trips to Louisville, Morgantown and Pittsburgh for scheduled games against high major competition. The world has changed. Memphis is our "closest" rival @ 7 hours driving time and it remains to be seen if they can step up and be competitive over an extended period. Sadly, we can't count on long-term scheduling relationships with any regional P5 rivals in this current scenario either. So that short trip up U.S. 27 on a Saturday afternoon gives UC fans the chance to flip a road game to a home atmosphere (or neutral site worst case) and earn a victory that means more locally than playing most any other MAC school.

Sounds familiar. There were a few rare exceptions, but waking up before noon on a Saturday to see UAB or Southern Miss football didn't qualify. Great to see, despite our conference situation, the students are coming out and having fun.

When I was there, that rock wouldn't have hit a student at either basketball or football games. It was so sad.

Exactly why this game should interest you. With conference re-alignment many schools have ditched their long time rivalry games. If it was not for a bit of pageantry and some traditions college football would be as stale as the NFL. Sure Miami may be bad, but it is a game that has been played over 100 times. It is a game I hope we never lose.

We expect to draw 40k for the game, which will probably be our record attendance this year. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

I've heard ECU fans travel well, so I think that one may pass this weekend's game. Their home attendances are always very solid.

Long time lingerer, first time posting. I go by the same user name over at BearcatTalk, but I think it's time to branch out.

ECU has a terrific fan base but playing @ Cincy on a Thursday night in mid-November won't get many of them to town. The AAC is what it is at this point but ECU appears to be the biggest home conference game of our season and should be played on a Saturday.

But that's life in the AAC and our fanbase has to suck it up, fill seats and make some noise to demonstrate our commitment to big-time college football.

The advantage of playing on a Thursday night is that the AAC gets the exposure of presenting perhaps its biggest game of the season to a national audience. The only competition that night I believe is Bills-Dolphins on the NFL Network.

Plus it provides a nice boost to SOS (which the committee will surely be taking into account) without the degree of difficulty it might take to play an oppponent of similar quality somewhere much farther away. Granted that's mitigated by how lousy Miami has been very recently, but I'll be rather surprised if Martin does have them at least back to respectability pretty quickly.

Did a quick scan over at MiamiHawkTalk. Apparently there are still Redhawk fans picking Miami in this game. http://www.miamihawktalk.com/discussion/...hp?t=60047
