(09-18-2014 10:13 PM)21-17 Best Time I Ever Ha Wrote:  This is my last comment on this because BCM is obviously not in Memphis often enough and not on Tiger Lane or in Tobey Park enough to know WHAT goes on after any game.

There ARE ~ fact ~ hundreds of bones left in Tobey Park from one end to the other, and all the way to the Fire and Emergency buildings on the north, around the skate park and the dog park on the west, around the ballparks and volleyball sand lot to the south, and to the Board of Education and the railroad tracks on the east, a HUGE area. I see this with my own eyes every year. I walk my dog over there every day. There is also paper, dirty diapers, beer bottles, aluminum foil, plastic bottles and aluminum cans strewn everywhere.

This garbage every year stays there well into the following spring. How do I know? I see it. And my dog will be finding bones for months and months, which is dangerous to her and which is hard for me to see and anticipate and keep her from eating. This, in effect, makes our recreational walks more dangerous and unpleasant. FACT

The fact is also that the City WILL NOT do anything to remedy this. You would have to visit this city and see all the blight, trash all over empty lots and streets to realize that expecting the City to address this problem is pie in the sky.

The SHC folks tailgate and party the whole weekend behind my house in Tobey. They do place cookers in the grass, and empty grease and charcoal in the grass, burning it and causing grease areas which will remain ~ I guarantee it ~ for months.

And we are not just talking about trash on Tiger Lane. Far from it. For years, actual destruction of property has taken place by the SHC folks who come from out of town and attend only one function here. They do not have to deal with what they leave behind like the Tiger fans who come to every game. Tiger fans are proud of Tiger Lane and they treat it with respect and I have NEVER seen one instance of destruction of anything on Tiger Lane. Everyone is careful to put their ashes in the designated spot. There is some paper trash left, esp. around the garbage bins when they overflow during a game, but the City does clean that up before the next game. I go to every single game. I see Tiger Lane after every single game.

Perhaps the SHC folks keep their tailgating spots clean at their own schools, but when they come here, it is evident, by their actions, that they have little respect for Tiger Lane or Tobey Park. Even if the city of Memphis makes a ton of money from them, that does not justify the DESTRUCTION that occurs to concrete and asphalt and grass on Tiger Lane. It's rude to come to a host city and a host neighborhood and act like that.

Now, I could go out and spend a couple hours taking pictures of all of this, but that would be a waste of my time. There are old threads on here with LOTS of pictures of said destruction. This whole thread is not about just ONE grease stain. Far, far from it.

Then what happened?

One of our spots still has a big area of dead grass from damage during LAST year's SHC.

Link?

Pic?

I find that amazing, since zoysia is an incredibly aggressive grass that can fill spots very fast.

I did see one spot in the C section of TL when I took the pic of ashy greasy that had two almost perfect dark brown burned/dead grass. My guess about 2-3ft diameter. Didn't seem that it would deter using the spot. Didn't think it was worthy of a pic.

Hopefully, no one n Tiger lane pours any alcoholic beverages on the grass, spits tobacco, put cig butts out on the ground or anything else that might harm grass.

It is good to see that folks are in 100% compliance with refraining from those harmful behaviours.

Apples and oranges.

At least what I'm addressing isn't simple littering. I would hate for a bunch of dippers to spit all in the grass area folks are sitting/standing in. Most tobacco users I know, spit in a cup or something of the like.

Good to hear.

My call to action tweets must have worked.

Now to solve the budget crisis. Might need a little "friendly" help with that.

Thought it was funny that we had a third crop circle in our spot this weekend. I guess they could not just cook over one of the two dead spots left over from last year. Oh well, i am sure i am just being a racist for bringing it up.

RE: Concert Series
One last time, I am NOT taking pictures of chicken bones in Tobey Park. But I will be glad to send you my vet bill when my dog gets a punctured stomach for sucking one up before I see it.

They are sunk into the grass, and labs can find every single one. She stops every five feet to try to get one.

She did find a huge intact turkey leg today, too.

All this food residue may seem funny to those who do not live here and don't have to deal with Memphis' cat-size rats. Is it fun for y'all to encounter dirty diapers on your daily walks?

I am glad these people are here. I love it that they party and have such a good time. But this is my home, my neighborhood. How hard is it to be a good guest?

Why couldn't these folks have just left some unopened bottles of vermouth, Jack, and good vodka, as a peace offering to the neighborhood?

End of story.
