Apologies if someone else has posted this already. This ploy didn't work out too well for Arkansas State on a fake punt play this past weekend.

I'm not quite sure what that was meant to accomplish. I mean, if you fake your own death on the football field and there's no one within ten yards to witness it, did you really fake your own death?

Guy's obviously not a drama major. That was a pretty bad acting job. One of the other gunners might have well just walked up to him with this:

He wasn't an eligible receiver on the play and couldn't go down field. The fake death was a wrinkle our coaches threw in. The hope being that a couple defenders notice and are late reacting to what's actually happening.

Plus...its fun. Too bad our punter cant pass and missed the receiver streaking wide open down field. Funniest part was about halfway through the play, he realized it was picked and tried to get up and make a play, only to get immediately leveled by a Miami defender. Looked like something out of the Walking Dead.

When I read this headline I thought this was going to be about a player actually faking his own death and that people actually thought that he was dead. Come to find out he faked his death as part of a football play. I'm not sure whether that is less weird or more.

I can't think of anything to write. I miss the world cup

If you're going for distraction why not do the hippy shake instead of just falling down?

Leave it to the Sunbelt. That was very weak. He couldn't play dead in a cowboy movie.

My first thought was that it was a Ga State player trying to get off of the team.

I was at the game and didn't notice. I was more excited that stAte threw an interception.

The WR who falls over is "covered" by the receiver below him on the line of scrimmage, making him an ineligible receiver. The WR going in motion uncovers the left tackle, allowing him to go downfield and receive the pass, which is the trick here. It's a tackle-eligible play, which you can read about here. Technically, the WR who falls over on the play is the right tackle, and if he ran downfield, the team would get penalized. But he could've done something more relevant than playing dead.

He played dead? Seems fitting for the weekend the Sun Belt had.
