You would be right if you believe his desired outcome was to make the AAC look better. He's giving you as many, or more, points for losing than he is giving CUSA for winning. I understand the concept of giving credit for playing a top P5 team and losing close, but giving points for losing to someone like Indiana shouldn't get anyone any points, nor should getting blown out by a ranked team.

I'm sure old timer would be very appreciative if you came up with an algorithm for it.

My system would be easy.
One point for a win against an FBS.
Two points for beating a ranked team (one bonus point).
Minus one point for losing to an FCS.
Divide number of points by number of teams in the conference.
By overweighting P5 schools you are playing in to the same story espn pushes every day. Beating Purdue is easier than beating ECU, wouldn't you agree? Why should beating Purdue be worth more? It's just ridiculous that a team like SMU gets more points for be destroyed by Baylor than WKU gets for beating Bowling Green or La Tech gets for beating ULL. Both those teams were preseason picks to win G5 conferences and are still considered front runners for those conferences.

You were implying that there should be some sort of Power Index, and elo-like rating.

if vatech loses its next 4 games the ecu win wont look so great. if houston wins the rest of its games the utsa win will look better. as it stands right now its too soon to tell about conference strength, imo. marshall has a strength of schedule problem. they could be better than half the top ten teams but how is anyone going to be able to tell. you guys should be the biggest aac fans in the country right now. the better the aac schools look at the end, esp the ones cusa has victories over, the better marshall will look. provided you can win out. there arent that many cusa-aac matchups left are there?

I looked over a few Power Rating Systems and I made a stab at an elementary way to reward more competitive schedules, especially P5 schools and ranked P5 games. I may have over simplified it; however my goal was to give weight to a stronger schedule and not reward the losses, but to reinforce the wins. I have been really busy the last few weeks so I just threw it together fast. If anyone would like to come up with a more appropriate way to reward the playing of higher ranked P5 teams and still give credit to those that play a more challenging SOS, it would be great. There should be a Power rating system out there somewhere that is simple?
I appreciate your comments and everyone’s suggestions.

We have a spreadsheet that tracks the G5 games, if interested at the bottom there is a link.
Last week we overlooked two games, sorry, hope we have them all this week, but if anyone finds we have overlooked a game just let us know (we want it correct).
Week 2 For the Record G5 Comparisons G5 vs G5 / P5 vs Pd / G5 vs FCS.... http://wp.me/p4IYx7-mD
Thanks
You can't use strict records. You really think the sunbelt is second? The American iand the MWC are scheduling top teams, CUSA and the sunbelt are scheduling cupcakes.
Since we've been beating you I guess you're right. We've been scheduling cupcakes. Thanks cupcake, next time use Splenda, it's healthier.

They have AAC shortchanged. AAC has won 3 P5 games they have down 2.
Temple won one and ECU won 2.

Thanks for the heads up. I must admit that I have a few other people helping with several parts of the blog. As I am sure everyone encounters the same in their day to day living, I got caught up with life matters this past week. I didn't have a chance to review all that went out last week (I rarely do). So, If you see something we need to correct, please let us know. We really would like to have it correct.

That would also change the American p5 % to 27, and put them in first for P5s

ECU and Marshall look like they're in good shape to go head-to-head for the Access Bowl bid... then again, Houston in 2011 and NIU last year both looked like locks to bust the BCS. Here are my deeper thoughts on the issue...
